Re:Heading to Alabama - SCARED!!! amola: ok bubba.....though i have never spent any more time in alabama than was necessary (as in driving straight THROUGH the state to get to georgia), i think i can give you some advice here....

*let the locals drive. of course, this is true of virtually any area of the u.s. if you drive in unfamiliar territory, you might as well paint the vehicle that you're in with targets.

*remember, "sir" and "ma'am" should be in every sentence, especially in the south.

*if you can't pronounce it and/or if it has eyes, don't eat it. i don't care if it's on your plate and everyone around you says "oh, just taste it, it's GREAT!" don't do it. hold off for the hot dog from the local convenience store.

*don't complain about the weather. the locals are used to it and it will make you look like a freak.

*don't complain about anything that is unique to the area that you're in. again, the locals will think that you're a freak.

*when in doubt about proper attire, jeans and a tshirt are generally acceptable. however, from my understanding, in alabama the shoes are optional, even in the finer restaurants.

*you can determine which restaurants in alabama are the "finer" ones by the doors--if they have full-length doors that only swing in one direction, it's a "finer" restaurant (this includes fast food establishments).

i hope this helps....just remember, have fun and don't drink the water!

{{{hugs}}}

Re:Heading to Alabama - SCARED!!! marfanoidus: Bubba,

'RoadHouse' is definitely NOT the movie you want to watch before heading into the deep south.

'Deliverance', now THAT is a movie everyone should watch before heading to the deep south.

have fun you two,
walt
Re:Heading to Alabama - SCARED!!! tyrogers: LMFAO @ Walt!!!

Ok. I am actually contemplating taking him to a bar that resembles Roadhouse somewhat. Yes, it is my local bar. Yes, it is the one that I walk into and before I can turn my head to see who is there, someone is either hugging, grabbing or yelling at me...."HEY TY!!!".

As far as Deliverance goes........maybe you should watch it baby......... :-\

I am sure we will have a blast. After all, I went to his hometown first. What a shock to my system that was. Hell, it was COLD!!!! LOL Now it is his turn to see my hometown.....and meet the family.......muhahahahahaha!!!!!
