Scariest night of my life.... newman4ever: Hey people....

Been a few days since I've been on the messageboard and thought I'd touch base. I just had probably the scariest experience of my entire life and figured I'd share it with everyone here.

I thought divorce was the worst thing to ever happen to me, and it was for awhile...but on Sunday night, something happened that changed all that.

I was exposed to my first earthquake in my lifetime and hopefully, it'll be the last because it scared the living beejeezus outta me. I honestly don't know how you Californians deal with these things on a regular basis. For those who don't know me, I live in the Dominican Republic, and on Sunday night at around 12:30am, we got rocked with an earthquake that registered 6.5 on the richter scale. I can tell you, nothing in my life could prepare me for this. I was awoken from a sound sleep with things falling off my shelves and the whole building I live in was moving like nothing I ever dreamed imaginable. The quake lasted for what seemed like a lifetime. I got under a doorway and waited for the quake to pass, then quickly threw on the only clothes I could find, boxers and a tank top, and got my butt outta that building ASAP. Not knowing the quality of Dominican buildings, I certainly didn't want to trust that the building would remain standing.

Anyway, the building is fine, I ended up sleeping in my car across the street until 4am, then went back inside and went to bed. The quake was followed by over 20 tremors, some reaching as high as 5.0 on the richter scale, but the last one occured yesterday around 2:00pm.

So to sum up...I'm fine thank god. There were some buildings that came down from the quake but luckily mine wasn't one of them. There were no reported deaths, but several injuries. I pray to god I never have to go thru anything like this again. So now I have 2 experiences that have changed me forever. Divorce and eathquakes. Which is worse...tough call. At least the divorce had a positive effect on me long term, not sure if I can say the same about the quake. So gives me some food for thought I guess.

Talk with you all again soon. Nice to be back on solid ground.
