What do you want in your next relationship? ostia: This is sort of a vague question, but I've been thinking about it...
I was with my H for so long and for such a large part of my adult life that I never really thought consciously about what I was looking for in a mate...it was more that we drifted together, realized that we really loved each other, and so decided to get married. I never thought about our differences in values and lifestyle choices that seem so glaring to me now.
So, I want to think about what I want from my next partner. However, I don't want to get TOO specific (I have one friend who approaches dating like she's interviewing people for a job..if the resume fits, she'll date them, even if there's no real chemistry!).
So, maybe the thing to do is to think of basic non-negotiable things, and leave the rest to fate and chemistry?
This would be my list, I think..I'd want someone who:
reads a lot
is in decent shape
is affectionate
doesn't have a bad temper
is at least a little artsy/creative
likes to travel
is friendly and sociable
is financially responsible
What would be yours?
Re:What do you want in your next relationship? TiredandScared: Likes sports like I do, not afraid to give up Sunday to hang out and watch the football or Nascar.
Is a strong outgoing person (I hate wishy washy)
Great conversationalist (ready for a good heated friendly debate)
Can listen
Has an opinion
Loves travel espcialy international travel (other than the Caribean or Mexico)
FIRST and FOREMOST be my best friend, not any friend but my best friend
Understands that I like my toys for boys and need my time to play with them, but I will be back shortly after I have them broke in.
Someone who I can look at from across a room and know that I love them not look at me and give me a face and say "What, what do you want?"
Likes to pull on a sweat whirt and jeans with a baseball hat on Saturday morning and go out and do the grocery shopping with me. (I love a poney tail with a baseball hat mmmmmmm)
There is some much I think I want, but at the same time I have absolutely no idea.
Re:What do you want in your next relationship? justmenow: I second what was said above. Honesty and integrity will be a must. A non-smoker. Somebody who likes red wine would be nice too. Somebody active and spontaneous and fun. I think those are just basics. Anything past that is probably negotiable.
Re:What do you want in your next relationship? atd74: When I first divorced I made up my list of WILL NOT DATE... this is meant to be funny and not to offend. I can be a pretty sarcastic person especially when I've been emotionally dragged through the mud. As you will tell a lot of this relates to my ex. Hope this makes somebody laugh:
No one under 5'9" (I am 5'9 myself) They must reach my height or taller. Chest level is unacceptable. :P
No one under the age of 27. No one older than 35. I don't babysit anymore... I've retired.
Anyone who does not like kids. I have a uterus and I intend on using it someday. ;D
No muscleheads. The brain can be a very usefull object.
Anyone who thinks lifting the remote counts for exercise. Put the remote down and back away from the chips.
No first generation Italians. (Hey, I'm Italian myself). If your looking to dock your boat you've come to the wrong port.
Anyone who is in financial distress because of overspending and carelessness with money. Say it with me: S-A-V-I-N-G-S A-C-C-O-U-N-T. Money is the means, not the end. ;)
Anyone who does not like animals. This is a pet friendly environment. :)
Anyone who does not enjoy family get togethers or outings. Go live under a rock if you want to be alone. ::)
Anyone who needs a mother or a maid. Just go away.
>:(
Anyone who believes that sitting at home, watching cartoons and gossipping on the phone qualifies as a vactaion. Hawaii. Palm Springs. Cancun. ANYWHERE BUT ILLINOIS. Learn it and pack your bag. Date Ann will travel. ;D
Anyone who is looking for a mistress. Go visit your local strip joint - I'm sure you'll find one for the right price.
Anyone who thinks humangous is a word. Get a dictionary, use it and come back when you have a brain - and bring your dicitonary with you so I can beat you senseless with it. ::)
Anyone who refers to their Mom as Mommy. She may still change your diaper but I sure as he** won't.
Anyone who thinks watching a blockbuster hit means renting a movie from Blockbuster Video 2 years after it hit the theaters.
Anyone who belives that flowers and cards stop after that "comfortable period" sets in. Roses are red, violets are blue if you treat me like sh** I'll dump you! :-*
Anyone who thinks "pushing my buttons" is an amusing past time. Push too far and you may get pushed under a bus. >:(
Anyone who believes that driving around and wasting gas is Friday night entertainment. Ever hear of dinner or dancing?
Anyone care to add to the "list"...
Re:What do you want in your next relationship? dominowin: I also made a rather short "do not date" list....
I refuse to date anyone anymore who is not in shape and is not active. Couch potatoes need not apply.
I refuse to date anyone who isn't healthy sexually and who isn't affectionate.
I refuse to date anyone who I don't feel physically connected with as well as emotionally connected. The chemistry has *got* to be there, nuff said.
I refuse to date anyone who is completely irresponsible with money and who isn't someone who takes responsibility for things in their life. I want an action-oriented, not passive, person to partner up with when I choose to do so again.
Obviously there are *so* many more important things in terms of personality and character....but that's my quick-hit list.
