Heading back to college... twobeautifulkids: I have a degree in Business Admin that I've never really used. I've been a stay at home mom for 7 years and before that the jobs I worked didn't really pertain to my degree. Since my husband moved out two weeks ago I have decided I'm going back to school for my education degree. It's very important to me to be home when my kids are home (at least for the most part) and I don't want to give up that dream. I had to give up a lot of others when he walked out, but that one I still am going to try my hardest to keep.
I have my transcript assessment appointment with one college on Tuesday. I'll try to make another appointment with my other choice for later in the week.
I'm going to be a teacher! WOHOOOOO!
Re:Heading back to college... AloneandCold: Woo Hoo!!!!!!! Gratz!!!!
Re:Heading back to college... twobeautifulkids: Well I may have to change direction - it will take me at least 3 years at the college I went to today to get my elementary education certificate.
Re:Heading back to college... twobeautifulkids: what degree will you be going for?
I'll be finishing my master of arts in teaching when I am 36 if all goes well. I found a program that I should be able to finish in May 2007 as long as I'm accepted into it! I've signed up for two prereq. courses over the summer at the local community college. Life changes so fast!
Re:Heading back to college... browngreen: Gosh you guys-- Jim-- that's so cool.
I was an art student too, and like to write. But for some reason, I've never had that ambition to DO anything with either talent.
I am not sure why.
When People tell me "You could be an artist" and I just say "What do you mean, 'could be'?" But I know it's a cop out because since college I haven't put any time into it.
And twobeautifulkids, I can't think of a better career for you. It might take some time, but I think it will really be worth it.
Get ready for life to keep on changing.
I think going back to college in the fallout of the divorce is a great idea. I mean, it puts you in a new direction, gets your mind off of stuff, and helps you work towards your own dream, and gets you "out there" meeting people so you don't feel so lonely.
At least, that's how it's been for me. I'm only in school very part time, and classes are on line or at night. BUt It's still gives me the feeling that my life is more than just work and chores.
Best of luck!
