Re:d**n car salesmen!!! kimura321: Try buying a car in a military town. Once they find out you're in the service, they ask your pay-grade. They have the military pay chart at every dealership.
The saleman told me I couldn't afford the car I wanted and try to steer me to a cheaper model. I just got of an 8 month deployment in the Persian Gulf- tax free, hazardous duty pay, and no where to spend it for 8 months- who the heck was he to tell me what I could and couldn't afford. It got to where as soon as the salesman asked me my rank- I walked out. I found another dealship back in my home state who was happy to take my money.
Re:d**n car salesmen!!! LostTeacher: well, little mini update....
so, i was home sick on tuesday, and i got this phone call. it was a customer service manager, and he wanted to know how the service was. well, i was very honest, and told him how i felt. that i was a young, single girl who was just not being taken seriously.
so he asked me to come in again and test drive the same car, but with no sunroof. so i did.
then he worked the numbers so that i only paid half of the original down payment, the regular payments were low, the car was totally loaded, in my colour..... and the promotion for the month of april was a FREE LAPTOP COMPUTER!!!!!
needless to say, i signed the lease on the dotted line, and am now the proud owner of a 2005 ford focus!!!

Re:d**n car salesmen!!! LettinGo: WTG LostTeacher! Congrats on your first big purchase!
I did the same thing a couple months back ... went to three dealerships, but I told them what I wanted and wasn't settling for less, and I got it!
It feels good!
CONGRATS!
