it has very little to do with not hurting others feelings, it has to do with ducking the blame (real or imagined) that inevitably comes with admitting that ones has cheated, is bored, has fallen out of love, never was in love or has sobered up.
it is the same thang as "it's not you, it's me". it is so they do not have to own their own feeling and actions, so i guess it really IS them and not you.
stop torturing yourself, you will never know "the truth", or worse, you will, and you willnot like it.

I once did this myself, and in the end I learned love, being in love, loving... is quite a simple (yet powerful) emotion. One that deserves not to be used (even the word) in defense, ridicule, escape, self blame, excuses, etc. The low down is, she wants out for one reason or another. Whether she just doesn't 'like' you, doesn't 'love' you, or has some issues which are keeping her from 'being in love', the 2 of you are not happy, or it seems. People are so quick to use the word or phrase love, instead of fessing up to there being other problems..
It would hurt but it would be better if people could be honest and say things like:
I have to leave you becuase I have a problem with infedelity. I don't want to hurt you anymore..
I have to leave you becuase despite love, I do not feel passion with you and don't want to work on it.
I have to leave you becuase you and I jsut do not click...
I think I'm rambling... too much coffee.

at anyone time , one insecure person will to do the strong one the same as they expect to be done to themselves.......hence making the strong one insecure

insecure that one is going to leave
insecure that that one is going to behave in such away that they make the other one leave
