Re:Giving up smoking Chey: Well your little quote on the bottom of your messages, says every reason for this to be a success.
Re:Giving up smoking turning leaf: My ex-h was a non-smoker so when i started dating him, i totally quit smoking. (see what love can do? ick) my discipline went up a notch when we were going through serious fertility procedures and i totally stopped alcohol as well and even went to a dietitian to create special menus for me weekly. lo and behold, all that discipline went down the toilet during the dying days of the marriage. looking back, i actually don't regret it. but yes, time to totally cut back on the booze and cigs.

amy, good luck! i'll try to do the same thing too :)

Re:Giving up smoking gypsy: How funny Amy! I was just thinking about quitting today and as I was walking my pup, I thought I would come back here and post something about it...you beat me to it ;) I don't think I can quit altogether just yet...but certainly cut down. I used to only smoke when I drank, but then I worked on a film and all we did when we took breaks was smoke, so it became a habit. It seems like a lot of people in my industry smoke, so it's really hard to not smoke when I am around them...and then with all the stress I've been through, I can't help but reach over for a cig...I am even smoking in my place now, which was a big no-no at first...

Ok, I'll try to cut down while you try to quit...keep us posted.

I am on a roll now, going to the gym, not drinkning as much and now cutting down on smoking - man you guys are too good for me ;D
Re:Giving up smoking AmyMarie1972: Well it is now 7:22pm over here and I have still managed. Of course it helps that there are none in the house and the nearest shop is a 15 minute walk away, and 2 hours to get the kids ready.
No crankyness yet either so i think that i am doing OK.
22 hours and no cigs.
Thanks all for the support.
Amy
Re:Giving up smoking jimloveless: i have never been successful without the patch. it doesn't make it easy, but it takes away the physical necessity so you can focus on beating the psychological necessity. then, once that's gone, the physical is not nearly as much a challenge.

Good luck, amy. I'm quitting again, too. smoked 6 years, quit for a year, started again and have been on and off since then (about 4 years). do NOT allow yourself to break down.

a pack a day is only a cigarette away... as they say. And trust me on that. ;)
