talent vs skills - passion vs knowledge helplessness: Help. At a low moment in a recent counselling session I said *I dont feel I have talent or am passionate about anything. Why should i be happy with an average life?*
Ive very sensible unless it comes to relationships, have skills such as holistic therapies and hold down a responsible job in the financial world and own 2 properties. So you could say I have suceed in this world - if you miss count a normal / good relationship. that isnt talent though, it common sense, and I'm certainly not passionate about my job - I go to work and pay the mortgage, sometimes enjoying it other days not.
So I feel I have no talents or passion about anything. Can anyone tell me what the difference is in your lives? How do you recognise them, where do you go to find them?
Am I meant to join every club going to see if I'm a talented at or as a......artist ? sculpture? Martial Arts? Ballet? etc etc etc
Re:talent vs skills - passion vs knowledge ti-poux: hi helplessness,
talent does not mean you can become a great painter, ballet dancer...ect....
I define it as something you are passionate about.
It could be reading, cooking, working out, scrap booking...anything that makes you happy.
Not sure what it might be...well sent yourself on a journey and try out all different kinds of things...you'll figure it out. Remember what it was that you enjoyed doing as a kid...that might help.
Sing, dance, just have fun...its a door that is opening for you...
Best of luck

Re:talent vs skills - passion vs knowledge jt5639: Yes - now is the best time to explore. Take non-credit classes at your local community college. There are usually tons of things available - languages, cooking, dancing, yoga, computer stuff - you name it.
I'm doing that now. I work in theatre. It is definitely my life's passion, but it's also my job, so since the break-up I feel like that's all my life is about, and that makes me unhappy. I love travelling - I'm trying to get away as much as I can afford. I'm looking into grants where I can go do theatre in other places to combine my passions. I'm saving up for extended travel.
Take this time now to find stuff you enjoy doing. Just try crazy stuff you'd never imagine yourself doing. A good thing that has come out of this break up crap is realizing how strong I am. I'm interested now in conquering fears, so I'm going to get certified in scuba diving! Never in a million years would I have thought of myself doing that - I'm actually finally excited about something. Challenge yourself to get the most out of this life we have been given!
Wow - sorry to go all motivational speaker on you
:D
Take care,
jt
Re:talent vs skills - passion vs knowledge JimB: You sound like me. I'm constantly disappointed by the lack of meaning in my career - I'm in sales, so my job's purpose can be summed up as "contributing to the GNP".
My approach is just to take comfort in the things I enjoy, and try new things when I get antsy. Volunteer work really helps to scratch the not making a difference itch.
Also, talent and skills are overrated. I've been told I have talent at some things, but I'm not impressed. I've found it has way more to do with attitude - if you decide it's gonna be fun and worthwhile, it will be.
Dunno if that helps.
Re:talent vs skills - passion vs knowledge Shanna: I have no real skills. I am not passionate about anything. Someone told me I am a bad abusive mother months ago and I can't let that go. They have since changed their mind, but I still keep thinking maybe they are right. Maybe I am bad at the one thing I enjoy.
