Re:Name Change LostTeacher: in canada, i had to pay about $120 for a "change of name" form. was the dumbest piece of paper i ever receieved. had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, and then all i got was an official paper that only had my old name and new name on it. that was it.
i didn't need any other paperwork, just needed to answer questions, like that i was seperated, and that divorce was the reason for the change.
now if you want to talk about pain in the @ss, let's talk about all the personal information that i had to change back..........there is probably still stuff i haven't done, because i can't think about it at the moment.
i will never change my name again! no offense to anyone out there that i might eventually be with, but i am never going through that again. and i like my name, i am proud of my name, and there are no boys in my family, so i will honour that name now.
Re:Name Change scraft: In Indiana when you go for your final hearing the judge asking you if you want to keep your married name, or return to your maiden name is standard. And, you don't have to pay a seperate court fee in order to do it because it's in your divorce decree. I found this very interesting for some reason. I to decided to return to my maiden name to the dismay of my family. They feel it's better to keep my married name, so that I'll have the same name as our children, but I feel it isn't right to keep the name of the man you're no longer married to. And, also my maiden name is shorter and easier to pronounce. In Indiana in order for me to get a new social security card I must have a copy of my divorce decree in order to prove that I am in fact divorced which I think is really stupid because I can go to the license branch and get a new driver's license without it. We've been divorced for almost 2 years, and I still haven't changed my name although by law I am now required to. Returning to my maiden name seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but I'm having a hard time giving it up.
Re:Name Change Shanna: I am keeping my married name bc
1. want to keep the same last name as the kids
2. to much trouble to change it
think of all the stuff that has your name on it....DL, checking accounts, credit cards, lease or loans(house or car), and so on.
I shall stick with this name. I kinda like being the only person with this last name in the town. :D
Re:Name Change jillieb44: I'm changing it. I use my maiden name professionally already anyway and it's already on most of my accounts and licenses. Just a few would need changing.
Jillie
Re: Name Change sylvia3113: i have been married to him less than a year. i have spent the last year having my name changed to his on every document, account, magazine, credit card, id, etc. etc. etc. and do not want to go through the hassle and humiliation of now changing it all back.
i am planning on keeping his name. we have no kids. my sister thinks i am stupid for this. any thoughts?
