Crib to Toddler bed
.

Crib to Toddler bed Shanna: My youngest has now moved from his crib to a toddler bed. I gave him benadryl last night to make him to sleep easier. He is the rocking or be held or lay with him type of baby. He loves to cuddle, but won't go to sleep that way. I just put him in his room with gates up on the two doors and peridically led him back to the bed. I stayed out of sight most of the time though. (Frid helped me).

Any of you have any suggestions in case this method doesn't work out for me???? How did you do it? HAve a friend or relative that did something different...please share.
Re:Crib to Toddler bed MsLonely: I am about to move my youngest out of her crib as soon as her bed arrives on Wednesday. All kids are different so what works for one won't necearily work for another. My oldest has never slept well. What I had to do with her is at first lie in her bed with her until she fell asleep and then eventaully just sit on the floor next to her bed while we watched a Barney video and then usually by the end of it she would be out. She did wake up in the middle of the night and come into my bed. At first I allowed this because I was just so tired, but eventually I started bringing her back to her bed EVERY time she came in as soon as I noticed her in there. After a couple weeks she just stopped.

My youngest has always been a good sleeper so I think with her I am just going to sit down with her until she falls asleep like I always do and then put her in her bed. After she gets used to her bed I am hoping to just be able to lie her down and for her to go to sleep on her own. The problem I think I am going to face is that my girls will be sharing a room so I am afraid they will try to stay up playing rather than go to sleep.

I was just curious if you were giving your child the Benedryl under direction of a doctor? If so then of course take their advice over mine, but I don't think it is generally reccommended to give it for the purposes of sleeping except for on occasion when they are sick. While it may seem harmless they can develop a dependency to it and a tolerance meaning they won't be able to sleep without it and you will need to keep increasing how much you give them. There have been many young kids that have died from their parents giving them Benedryl to put them to sleep.

Re:Crib to Toddler bed Shanna: He actually has been sick.

He doesn't like me to sit with him.

The best way I can describe him...is he is like a female cat. He will be held when he wants to be held.....make sense. To sit with him I would have to continuously push him back into bed. He doesn't understand speaking yet either. No is something he understands....kind of.

Re:Crib to Toddler bed MsLonely: My oldest wasn't terribly affectionate either. Like I said what works for one may not work for another. The only advice I can give you is to be consistant in puting him back in his bed every time he gets out.
