Re:Crib to Toddler bed ColoHill: I just made a huge hype over both of my kids getting so big and getting into a big kid bed. Even if they couldn't understand everything I said, they understood my facial expressions and my tone of voice! I made this something they could be excited about doing because it meant they were getting so big! Granted, both kids went through a phase where they got out of bed but that was actually months after they started in their big kid beds. At that point, I just took them back every time they got out. But they were so glad to be growing up! It meant that there were so many more things they could do! :D
Re:Crib to Toddler bed Shanna: That is what I did with Alec my now 3 year old....he was kind of easy. Since he listens to what I say. Kyle on the other hand is a difficult little guy.
Re:Crib to Toddler bed jillieb44: To this day my 6 yr old won't go to bed....until he's tired. So that's NOT when I would want him to go to sleep. Doesn't help that his sister is a night owl...
That said I usually have to lay with them both, but have to stay with my son until he's asleep.
Doesn't help much if your son doesn't want you to lay/sit with him. Could you just totally kid-proof his room and have him stay in there and play til he falls asleep? Light on? Worked with my daughter until she climbed out of the crib; then I had to lay with her.
Some kids just have to stay up til they drop, though....

Re:Crib to Toddler bed scraft: AWWWWW you son is adorable. I used this method on my oldest because she was just not havin the toddler bed, and was seriously upset about it. I'd put her in the bed and told her that is she closed her eyes and didn't make a sound I would come back in 10 minutes to tuck her back in, and say goodnight. At first I didn't think it was going to work because it was like a 2 year old could tell time, and she would say mama it's been 10 minutes. But, after about 4 hours of this she finally drifted off to sleep, and I never had to do it again.
Re:Crib to Toddler bed wowee: Ok - where do I start? I guess first let me say - how adorable is your boy in his bed!! Very cute!
I did the same thing as MissinU - I made a big deal when my ( now 4yr old) son ( also named Alec ) was ready for his big boy bed. Soemthing that always helped me though was having some kind of music box for him to listen to when he fell asleep. I went through several kinds & found that you really have to pay attention to how long it will play for - because let's face it most kids aren't asleep in 5 minutes & all the pretty light up ones just kept my son awake. I hope some of that will help. Good luck!
