Re:love me, love my dogs Spectrum: I love my dog dearly, and he is definitely a very important part of my life. When there is just me to consider, I let my dog on the couch and allow him to sleep on the other side of my bed. In fact, he used to sleep on my ex-h's pillow every evening before he came to bed.
That said, I'm more than comfortable putting reasonable limitations on my dog's rights to compromise with the right individual. For example, my ex-bf didn't think dogs should be on the couch. Since we were at one point planning on moving in together, I stopped allowing Big D on the couch, and didn't allow him on the pillows on the bed (just at the foot). Dante didn't mind, and I just thought it was a reasonable compromise not to have my 100-lb. German Shepherd getting hair all over the furniture.
Of course, once we broke up Big D was back on the furniture faster than you can spell, "C-O-U-C-H." Hey, what can I say? I needed all the snuggles I could get! :)
