Re:Amuse TWG teacherwriterguy: EXCELLENT! :)

This is what I need, people!

Let's knock these out...

The North American Union idea:
I can't even pretend to be as knowledgeable as I ought to be about world affairs, but I can't imagine America really going for the idea - at least not to the point of changing currency. I think sometimes we're too stubborn for our own good - esp. because the world is becoming more global with every passing day.

Mtmo:
OMG I would so love to be able to see and feel the experiences of others as LONG as I was in control of it. Uncontrollably feeling those experiences - not good. But if I could pick and choose? Then again, you'd run into privacy issues and ethical stuff... but if I'm just letting myself go with a flight of fancy, then yeah!

Greatest writer of all time -
Yikes, you'd think an English teacher should be able to answer this. Instead, I'll do a teachery thing and refer you to a book which discusses this. Mark Edmundson writers a book called "Why Read?" which posits that THE #1 characteristic of whether a book is "great" or not is whether it gives a template by which we can live our lives. What can we LEARN from the book? By reading it, can we become better human beings? He disses Stephen King for that reason though - and I like Mr. King quite a bit!

Cruise and Katie Holmes? I'm skeptical about all hollywood marriages. Do they ever last? Rarely. TWGFB looks just like Katie Holmes in person though, which is really kind of cool. :) (Sorry TWGFB!) :)

What society would I rather live in?
Oh god that's the toughest one on the list - is the classless society one in which everyone has enough material goods to be satisfied? People are inherently greedy, which makes B a lot more likely to happen than A. A sounds very ideal - but then again communism kind of failed for a reason?

Keep 'em coming - I love this stuff!

Re:Amuse TWG penguin: Dang, that was fast... here are a few more...

1. Should the death penalty exist as a punishment for murder or terrorism?

2. Should the main purpose of prison be punishment or rehabilitation?

3. What is the best way to deal with juvenile crime such as
joy-riding?
vandalism?
graffiti?

4. Is it ever right for political activists to break the law?

5. How strict should the law be with people who drink and drive?

6. Which is the more serious problem in your country -
A) tax evasion or
B) social security fraud?

7. Should the police have the right to stop and search you in the street without a warrant?

8. Should the law respect the rights of homeless people to squat in unoccupied property or shop doorways?

9. Should smoking cannabis be a criminal offence?

Re:Amuse TWG Bubba: Actually I think the US would be the dominate figure in a N.A. Union. Mexico would love it for they would prosper. Canada however has one for the top 8 economies in the world (US being number 1), and due to Canada having a 10th of the population, would face being enveloped by the US. However, with China becoming such a economic force, and with the formation of the EU, one most wonder if it would still be a better option.

Also, the US would have it's own currency, but an new one would be added to all three countries.
