Re:my baby is growing up.... WhiskeyGirl: You got off easy Amola.... my daughter just lost her first tooth last week, same one as your daughter actually. I didnt know how much to leave either and Cassidy informed me that the toothfairy leaves $5 :o I thought she was playing me until I talked to some of the other moms and sure enough....the going rate around these parts is 5 freaking dollars a tooth!!!!I think I got 50 cents or something when I was little....sheesh ::)
Re:my baby is growing up.... Berries: I read something in a parenting magazine about this... it basically said, if you don't want to dish out x amt/tooth, leave foreign money. Then you have to explain that the tooth fairy must have paid in the wrong currency, but it starts a cool collection for the child, and you can research what country she must have mistaken yours for, based on the coin. I like this idea for my daughter, but since she didn't get teeth til she was 1.5 yrs, we have a long way to go before she starts LOSING them!
However, to get her to be interested in brushing her teeth (once she got them in,) I would leave a sticker on her pillow from the "sticker fairy." The sticker fairy visits for chores, very good days, etc. now. For her denstist visits, she received a package of temporary tattoos from the sticker fairy (from the $1 store.)
I like finding creative ways to get her interested in things, even if it borders on bribery!! Eventually, I phase out stickers for expected behavior, and place "sticker value" on bigger things. But I always explain this to her, and it's worked well so far.

Re:my baby is growing up.... amola: $5 a tooth? oh i do not think so....no way, no how! the tooth fairy in these parts is not that well off....holy crap....

funniest thing about the whole ordeal, was that i did convince her that the only way that the tooth fairy would come, was if the tooth was IN the tooth fairy pillow, under HER pillow, with her head ON TOP of her pillow (in other words, she had to be in her own bed....) she fell for it. until i got up at about 2am to pee and put some itchy stuff on my legs (d@mned fleas and mosquitoes, anyway)...she woke up, found the pillow, found the buck and said "hey mom, since the tooth fairy's already been here, i can come in to your bed now, right??"

how in the hell do i argue with that logic?

woke up this morning with both girls in my bed...... ::)
