Re:How do you tell people??? jimloveless: it's tough. especially when it comes to inlaws. i just chose not to talk to them, though i love them.

the few times i was asked about my wife, the person set it up beautifully.

them - "Hey, james! how's it going? How's N? I haven't seen her in a long time!?"

me - "Me either."

them - "oh..."
Re:How do you tell people??? getting_rough: Thats a good one Jim. I might try it sometime. With My In-laws its great they are helping me through this whole thing. I feel Guilty about it though

Re:How do you tell people??? faith: Hallmark actually has a card for just this purpose! It's got some kind of scene on the front and inside it reads:

"Just wanted to let you know of my divorce"

I should have bought them when I saw them. I would love to send them to all the attractive men in my neighborhood! ;D
Re:How do you tell people??? francesca: It is so hard, especially with strangers or people not too close to you. Grapevine usually works wonders. Most people at work found out that way.

My worst question though, I have to say, since I've been separated since January is "do you think you guys will get back together one day or will work it out"?

Hell no!!!
Re:How do you tell people??? teacherwriterguy: I just tried honesty and directness - it's weird to say it, but it was almost therapeutic too?

At first, just getting the words "I'm getting divorced." out in the open was a huge help to me in making it seem real.

I made a point to tell everyone in my department at school at our department meeting, just a brief, no questions announcement. I had my parents spread the news through the family grapevine. And then I keep a blog that my college friends read, so I posted a brief announcement there too for them.

That covered 99% of my bases.
