Things happen for a reason...

Things happen for a reason... jen: I had an interesting conversation last weekend and it got me thinking about some of the things we say such as "Everything happens for a reason" or "Things work out the way that they are supposed to" and along those lines.

My friend suggested instead that "Things happen the way that they do...and then we give it reason and make the best of it."

I thought it was a good distinction, so just thought I'd throw it out there and get some opinions on the two perspectives.
Re:Things happen for a reason... jackass: I agree with this in terms of things that do happen reason or not, can have very awesome results, and can make a person a better person. Yes, we do need to give reason on occasion, and focus on the positives.

I actually think that both are true. Beware, twg's going to make a religious comment. :P

I do think that life is what you make of it - you take what happens and decide how you are going to react.

However, when I do get religious - which is not often - I tend to believe that there's a larger plan way beyond what any one of us can see from our 'street level' perspective down here on Earth.

So, you kind of have faith in the bigger picture, and then settle down and do some hands-on management of the smaller picture.

Did that make any sense?

Re:Things happen for a reason... LostTeacher: I believe some of that to TWG.
i am not really into the whole religious scene, but there are some things out there that i just don't get, and i think happen for a reason.

point one: won tickets to a hockey game. an arena for about 15000 people. how is it that my tickets were the row behind my ex-in-laws??? was the first time i had seen them since the seperation (about 5 months in). i handled it very well.

point two: have seen stbxh driving around with the OW a few times now. she even answered the phone once when i called. have i totally lost control? no. have i freak out? a bit, but not badly. i just finally woke up and stopped contact with him, this time for good.

point three: just when i think i really need a job to keep busy, they cancel both the summer school courses i was supposed to teach this year. they said it was their worst year ever for enrollment. so now i am left, facing this vast open summer break, with nothing but a move to worry about, and no one to share it with. what am i supposed to do??

so i do believe that there is so divine plan out there for me. i wouldn't be going through all of this stuff if there wasn't....at least i don't think so. it's something that helps me at times get up in the morning....knowing that there is more out there, waiting for me to heal, and to carry on with my life.
Re:Things happen for a reason... Smiley17: TWG - I totally agree with you!!!

I'm a strong believer in everything happens for a reason, whether good or bad. That thought process has helped me get through a lot in my life, and I hold onto it with both hands.
