Re:Things happen for a reason... OldSchool: mtmo,

Cliches like "Things happen for a reason.." or "God doesn't give us more than we can handle.." can be used when a particular situation is ongoing or has just passed maybe to help put a perspective on where we're at this point in time.

In times of personal struggle, whether it's relationships, or financial stress, dependency issues, depression, etc... it's hard to come up with those words without seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Hope and faith that we can get through a period of sorrow or loss of somesort I think makes us stronger.

It's these sayings that have been passed down to us by survivors of more improbable situations that we could ever phathom. Therefore, I believe we make our own chapters and it's in our power to write our own intros and conclusions thru periods of our lives.

Personally, life has had a way of jolting me from my comfort level at times to look at things in new ways. Experience new people in different surroundings, then coming to my own conclusions on how each person and situation can strengthen my trust that life was meant as a gift and each moment should be cherished.

Things don't really work like they're supposed to without some sort of action behind it and an individual choice. Of course that's just where I sit on those thoughts, but your post really made me think about this and it took a couple of days just to formulate this small response.

Maybe there was a reason why it took so long for me to respond.... ;)

take care,

Re:Things happen for a reason... jen: hmmmm....I found myself away from Ojar for a few days and this is still a question that I find interesting in my mind for a few reasons.

I find it extremely comforting to believe that there is a greater purpose and reason that has shaped my life. But, I also believe that I have a hand as well in determining how the story will play out.

I also find gratitude and solace in the belief that people and events are brought into our lives when we need them most, to learn lessons we need to learn, or be reminded of them...so that we can lead richer, fuller lives.

I appreciate all of the responses here and for giving me more food for thought :)

Re:Things happen for a reason... sacoderisa: couldn't truer words come out of someones mouth.....or keyboard. Haven't u noticed that there is always a lead to whatever happens in this life? what happens makes you stronger, makes you learn. and it might take away what you want, to give you what you need.
Re: Things happen for a reason... summerparis: I thought about this post a lot over the weekend after this car incident, and I asked myself how I could learn and grow from it.  I realized more than ever that my daughter is precious!

It was also a real catharsis from all the stuff that has been going on for the past year with the stbx.  I HAD to let it go.  And with that, I let go of any lingering hopes and dreams that I had for "woulda, coulda, shoulda" with him.  I accepted the situation - and him - for what it is in the present.
