Re: Medication DANI1819: I am taking Zoloft. I should have been on an antidepressant for years now but the break up made me go to the doctor and ask for something. Now that we are back together he has mentioned that he sees such a change in me. I totally feel like a different person. I love it
Re: Medication mozart101: A good friend of mine takes zoloft a few times a week as she needs it - says it does wonders on those days that are too much. But as always you need to contact your physician and preferably get 2 or 3 different types of samples to see which one works the best for you. Also - you could try reviewing your diet - starting an exercise program - meditation - jacuzzi's - massages to help alleviate some of that pain. Basically drugs will help but so will lifestyle changes as well usually and they are free. Do what's best for you and stick with it.
Good luck
Re: Medication kittenpants: I went on Lexapro well before my divorce, but I think it has also been a major help during my divorce as well. However, my therapist didn't want to up my dose to help me through the tough times because she said it is an important part of the grieving process to feel the pain, sadness, etc... However if you can't sleep and can't eat, you might want to think about talking to someone. I don't recommend going to a GP though. My cousin's GP totally f'ed him up with meds because she just didn't know enough about dosing, etc... If you do go to a GP, I recommend talking to a therapist first so s/he can consult. Oh, as for your caution toward meds, I too was very cautious and didn't go on Lexapro as soon as I should have. The thing to remember is that you don't have to continue taking the medication esp. if your depression is circumstantial.
Good Luck!
Re: Medication JerniganReturns: All of us react differently to meds. Zoloft or effexor might work wonders for some people; for others, it's virtually poison. I've tried Lexapro and Prozac before; both had a negative affect. Actually, I feel much better WITHOUT the drugs, after having tried them. I was on Prozac for three months and it was atrocious. Soon as I stopped taking them---presto, it was as though a pall had been lifted.
Only drugs I do now is an occasional Xanax---maybe one a week, for the occasional panic attack---and moderate booze.
