Re: What did YOU do wrong? Lumpy: I could probably fill two or three pages here but I'm gonna boil it down to one thing. Priority. I didn't make her my #1 priority. Whether it was the kids, my mother, my best friend, hobbies, etc, some other aspect of my life seemed to take precedence. I truly took her for granted. Great topic by the by. We spend so much time and energy griping about what our exes did or didn't do we often miss the bigger picture...

I took for granted that he would always be there (and would always want to be with me)
We stopped REALLY talking
We stopped doing the little things: holding hands, little notes, etc.
Our core values were just different... it was just realized too late.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to be a man. Oops.

1. I allowed myself to be a parent rather than a partner.
2. I assumed that we could solve problems through discussion without outside help.
3. I enabled my ex in not finding a direction in life.
4. I didn't trust my ex and withheld affection as a result of that lack of trust.
5. I stopped respecting my ex eventually due to #3.

i wish i could say i focused too much on work. i wish i abused her (?).

WhiskeyGirl: Well.....as riversand lakes said nothing justifies cheating but thats not really the question, the question is what did we do wrong and I did lots of things wrong I suppose.......I was way too critical, when I get stressed which I was alot I demand perfection and I think he was tired of falling short of the mark. I forgot that even though we were together for so long he still needed to be told how much I loved him and how attractive I found him, I took for granted that he just knew. Im sure there is more but those are the 2 main ones. Live and learn........ ::)
