Vehicle blizbth: I am in NC, a 50/50 state. The house and both cars are in my stbx name only. I drive and make the payment on one of the vehicles now. I would refinance it in my name only, but my credit is shot. My question is, if I hand the car back to him and get my own.....could I be ordered later to assume complete responsibility for the vehicle?
I can go get a car on my own that I will have to pay tons of interest on and stuff b/c of my credit...but I dont want to do this and then get stuck with two payments if they make me take his vehicle.....
He is always telling me when I make him mad to drop the car off with the keys and blah blah blah. Right now it just something that he holds over my head and I am tired of dealing with that!
Does this make sense?

we have one vehicle in his name only, and i am still responsible for it, it's marital debt. i am responsible for that debt jointly and severally.
and by the way, "jointly and severally" means that you are not on the hook for half of the amount and he's on the hook for the other half.
it means that YOU are responsible for 100% of the debt and HE is responsible for 100% of the debt. if they can't collect it from one of you, they will come for the other one for 100% of the money.
protect yourself accordingly.
