Re:how to stop nicotine addiction? marc_ro: Just chiming in here as today is my second month anniversary nicotine-free via cold turkey....and that's after going through the patches three times and relapsing within 6 months.

Buggs is spot-on, cold turkey is a great way...it's the cheapest, the most effective, and the simplest. Not the easiest, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. What changed my attitude about smoking was education. And most of that education came from this site: http://www.whyquit.com

If you want to quit smoking, check it out. It may not be for everyone, but it sure worked for me. Smoking is not a habit, it's an addiction to nicotine, and recognizing that is the first step to beating it. Good luck.

Re:how to stop nicotine addiction? seth: Well, if you didn't smoke pre-divorce that would certainly be the even to get you started.

Before my ex left me, I took a month-and-a-half to get through a pack--by which time my ex might have already thrown it out, saying they were probably stale anyway.... Now, I smoke a pack a day even though I run three times a week or so. Smoking is really the only thing holding me together....

So it's really hard to think about quitting. I live in Virginia and there's this ad campaign, WatchBobQuit.com or something like that.... I pass this every morning after stubbing out my "morning commute" smoke....

Good luck w/ quitting. Yeah, I heard Zyban (actually, Wellbutrin) has been used for smoking cessation.... if nothing else works....
Re:how to stop nicotine addiction? A25: there is also the Nicotrol Inhaler - it is the only nicotine replacement therapy that actually looks and feels similar to a cig, so you can pick it up and put it down to get the nicotine whenever and wherever you need it. def something to try...look it up online and ask your doc b/c it's a prescription...I know some ppl who've been able to quit on it, so it's def worth trying. some docs prescribe it in combination w/ wellbutrin or zyban...possibly even with a low dose of the patch, but i'm not 100% sure about that...anyway GOOD LUCK! i know it's so hard to quit but like OJAR, there are online support sites that can def help as well. You are taking the first step in making yourself healthier, so you should be so proud!!
