Re: when is it my turn sparks: Everything all of you said is true and I do take care of myself.  It is just so frustrating that society thinks its only my responsiblity. Imagine what people would say if I had left all the responsiblity to him. Hes a good dad because he pays child support and takes them for 4 days a month but if the arrangemnet were reversed Id be a bad mom. I have to think of the kids first and he doesnt.  I would never do anything without thinking of them first but it pisses me off that he gets to budget in his kids and the child support.  How easy that would be.
Re: when is it my turn Failedjedi: When do you get to be selfish ... anytime you want its that simple....

There is your answer
"fight the good fight and even if you dont win, you did what should make you proud"

As an upstanding (Ahem) member of society, I have to disagree. Paying your child support alone does not make you a good father. As far as the position being reversed, would you want it that way? You don't strike me as the type of person who would abandon your children for another relationship. The next time you talk to the MIL, and the subject of prospective mates comes up, you should suggest to her that his choices in mates will also effect the children. It's not all on you. That having been said I'm sure that this all comes out of concern for her grandkids. She probably relies on you to be the responsible one cause she knows that her son is lacking...
Re: when is it my turn Cowboy12: She probably relies on you to be the responsible one cause she knows that her son is lacking...  nice point Lumpy  you do sound like a mature mom.

As for having the roles reversed, I would love it, my stbx, is an alcoholic, who while is in recovery, is having an affair with another AA member, I had to look after the kids & try to work when she was in and out of treatment centres etc. and now that she is sober, she wants me out to have her OM in ....

Belive me sparks ...as someone who used to get home at 5pm every evening to be with his kids,  it is not much fun, getting such limited access, and paying for everthing, while I now live in a box room in a flatshare...

Sometimes its just as hard been an absent Dad....
