Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... whatnext: If you don't own it, I highly recommend the latest version of Joy of Cooking.  The recipes are excellent, in a homey, americana way.  You can do an entire meal with the one book, and if you don't understand the "how and why" they probably explain it.  Great book for beginners and old hands.

Use the freshest, least processed ingrediants -- it's the secret to great cooking.

Bake some rolls.  They are easy easy easy, and say "I went the extra mile".  You pull those rolls out of the oven with fresh butter and he's saying "hell yeah".  They'll go great with the Chicken Alfredo.

I love the cupcake idea -- cute, fun, hand-sized.  Cool idea.

Table-cloth, candles, flowers: guys like these, too.
Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... Suddenly Single: OK,  You inspired me to make dinner for my guy......

popcorn shrimp and cocktail sauce, bread with olive oil and parmesan cheese for appetizers.

tortilla crusted tilapia, pan fried cauliflaur (sp?) with butter and breadcrumbs and roasted garlic potatoes and for dessert...oreo cookie pie.

He absolutely loved it....of course I'm too stuffed to move right now!  and now he is grinning from ear to ear because he not only had a good dinner but I made enough for lunch tomorrow!

Thanks for the inspiration.  I am keeping my fingers crossed for your birthday dinner!

Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... timetobefree: SS,

You gotta share your recipes for the tilapia and cauliflower!

Amy ;D
Re: Making Dinner for my guy..... Suddenly Single: Timetobefree -

Ok - I must confess...the tilapia is frozen from Market Day.  Do you have that?  It is a fundraiser through schools - it is all food.  You order the food ahead and pick it up at the school.....

The cauliflower I just steam or microwave, then put butter in a fry pan (as much or as little as you'd like), then add italian flavored bread crumbs and the cut up cauliflower.........cook until the cauliflower looks like it is well coated or parts of the pieces are a little brown....(from the butter)  it is really easy but puts a new spin on the old veggie.

I guess I could have put this in the recipe section too.......eh...too late.  :)
