holding his stuff ransom minneapolis: Hi guys
Need help figuring out what to do here.

STBXH left me in January.  In order to work out the settlement we had the house appraised in March which cost $325. I paid for it.  April 15, we owed $6,000 in taxes.  I paid them (even though STBXH makes about 30% more than I do.)  He verbally agreed to pay me back for half of both the appraisal and the taxes.  This was not worked into the settlement at all though, just a verbal (and via email) agreement.  Our settlement is final and is signed and just waiting for the judge's approval.

Now he's coming around to get his stuff back.  I loaned his mountain bike to a friend of mine and STBXH wants it back (it had been just sitting in the attic since January) .  The bike is worth about $2,000.  He's been asking me to get it back for the past month or so and I feign forgetfullness, saying I will get it back.  However, I'm thinking about telling him I'll get the bike back once he gives me my half of the taxes and appraisal.  I know there is no way I will ever see any money from him otherwise.

What do you guys think?  It may not be the "right" thing to do, but I feel like I deserve to be reimbursed for the money and he will not give it to me without some sort of threat.
Re: holding his stuff ransom whatnext: Don't play that card until the judge has approved the settlement, that's for sure.

What an a--hole.

Re: holding his stuff ransom freovir: don't keep the bike, just make sure you back over it with your car before you return it.  OOPS!  actually if i were you, i would take $3112.50 worth of his stuff and accidently destroy it, but then i'm a bit of a prick when it comes to things like this.

better yet, tie it all to your bumber and drive it over to him.  kind of like beer cans behind the marriage limo.  you can honk to your heart's content, too.
Re: holding his stuff ransom Failedjedi: Take the HIgher road :D and give it back BUT record that you did and the value :D

If your being a jerk then your gonna do something nice...... and recordable

If he is being a Jerk then you also have something recordable and you appear even more reasonable...

You dont use the bike and therefore have nothing to lose but have much to gain.
