Dumb Question sigkapgirl: Alright, soooooo, I have to wait until March or April to even file for divorce. Well, actually, I don't plan on filing. Not only because I'm in FL and I'm not going to NC just to file, but because I'm not paying the money. He wanted it, he can pay for it. Of course, if he doesn't file in a week or so, I'll do it.
Anyways, back to my original question. If he does actually remember to file (trust me, there's a chance he could forget), how do I know?
He can't serve me with papers, because he doesn't know where I'm at, and I don't plan on telling him. He doesn't have ANY of my new information.
If he sends it certified mail to my parents, they will probably have moved by then.
So, what happens? I'm almost thinking that I should just pay my freaking lawyer to file for me so that I don't have to deal with the hassle and just get it over with as soon as possible, because if my stbx files, I know he'll do it wrong. (He did our separation agreement wrong 3 times before I finally just had my lawyer do one).
BAH. Stupid ignorant bastard.
Re: Dumb Question tyrogers: Send him a letter with your address stating this:
"For your information, this is my new address...blah blah blah"
That is all you need to tell him. No phone number. Just an address. If you want to, you can mention
"For your information, this is my new address so that when you file for divorce in __________, you can serve me easily enough. Thanks - hope all is well."
Re: Dumb Question scraft: You can call the courthouse in the area it's s'posed to be filed in to find out. If it has been filed they can send you a copy.
Re: Dumb Question sigkapgirl: See, BBH, I am NOT telling him my address. I'm down here, six hours away from anyone I know, and he is NOT the same person. He's unstable. I don't want him to know where I live. I changed everything - my cell, my email, my aol name - I even quit my job because of it.
That's why I can't just tell him my new address. I'm keeping my permanent address as my parents, even when they move.
The only thing that MIGHT be a possibility is that he can just go through my lawyer (which he should do anyway). I seriously doubt that he still has my lawyer's information though. He's stupid like that.
Re: Dumb Question tyrogers: Get in touch with your lawyer and advise him of your address in case your STBX calls. He can handle it then.
