Re: Digital Cameras Yeehaw: I have a Sony 5.1mp Cybershot. Bought it from Staples for about $240, with a 512mb memstick, carry case, etc, came to about $400.
It's a good little camera, does mpeg movies and a bunch of other crap I'll probably never use. As far as picture quality, as long as you use Photoshop or something, there's no loss in clarity.
Re: Digital Cameras picadilly: When purchasing, be aware of what kind of memory the camera uses. There are 3 types that come to mind, though I'm sure there are more then that. Compact Flash, SD (Secure Digital) cards & Smart sticks. SD's are the smallest but comes at a slightly higher price. Compact flash is the oldest style, cheapest for the amount of memory you get but also the bulkiest of the bunch. & Smart stix are Proprietary to Sony products but most things that belong to sony will have a slot that alows you to share the memory with.
Most camera's only come with 16 or 32 MB of memory & depending on the MegaPixels of the camera you get, you can have maybe 20-30 pictures. Not much use is it? So be aware that you need to allow for another $60-$100 for a larger memory card for whatever camera you get.
Typically, 3 MP camera's are all anyone needs. If you don't plan on making blow up's of photo's beyond the 5 x 7 size, then you won't ever need anything more then that. Shop & campare though, not all camera's have the same quality, even if they have the same MP rating.
Edited cause my grammer & spelling is teh sux.
Re: Digital Cameras Smiley17: I have a 3.0 megapixel Olympus, with a 3X zoom, that's about 3 years old. I love it!
Re: Digital Cameras kfc75: I have a 3 mega pixel canon, and have made some beautiful 8x10's of my son. The ex took the brand new 5 mega pixel sony I had bought her for mothers day 3 days before the break up, that was a nice camera, oh well.
www.steves-digicams.com has some good reviews if you wanna do some reading.
Re: Digital Cameras HeartbrokenDingo: Cameras have dropped in price significantly. Used to have to pay $500 for 4 mega pixels...now...around $250.
A few things to consider...Mega pixels, ovbiously. Picadilly and BR are correct. Unless you're planning on printing your pictures or making enlargements, you'll be okay with about a 3.2 MP. Secondly, your Zoom. Digital cameras usually have to types of zoom, optical and digital. They take the amounts of both and multiply them together and that is how you figure out your total zoom. For example, if you have a 3x optical zoom and a 4X digital zoom, you have a total 12X zoom. Remember though, optical zoom is more important than digital. You always want a higher optical zoom rather than a high digital zoom. Whatever the amount of your optical zoom, for example, my camera has a 10X optical zoom, so it will get me 10 times closer to my subject. After your optical does that, the only thing that your digital zoom will do is "blow up" or enlarge what the optical has already gotten you close to. In reality, digital zoom is "fake zooming".
Picallily is also correct about internal memory. Most cameras have a small amount of it so you will need a memory card. Prices will vary, though. I tend to steer people away from Olympus because they take Olympus X-D cards, which are proprietary only to Olympus and some Fuji cameras and they are extremely overpriced...you're paying for the Olympus name. Same goes for Sony...nice cameras, but overpriced memory cards. The most common card is SD, which is secure digital. They will work in most HP cameras and most Kodak's. and they are reasonably priced. I have three 256 MB sd cards and 2 512 MB cards.
Office Depot has a very nice assortment of digital cameras and memory cards....and they will price match....
so stay out of Staples!!!!! >:( (Our competitor)
