Vocabulary dgiirl: This is kind of in relation to the self-confidence course offered in the anything goes forum.
Have you changed some of your vocabulary or internal dialog?
1) I'm trying to stop appologizing for everything. Seems ppl with low self-esteem do that, and I'm notorious, pisses ppl off.
2) Instead of saying "no problem", I'm trying to say "You're welcome". I read that no problem subconsciously implies there IS a problem.
3) I'm trying to say thank you more often, and show my appreciation.
4) Trying to tell myself i'm pretty and good.
5) Trying to not call myself names.
Re: Vocabulary Kermie: I stopped using slang so much and stopped cusing, my ex cused like a sailor and watched way to much MTV, after a while it started to wear off on me and I hated it. Espically when she would cus around the kids. I feel alot better when I talk to peole now and I think they respect me more. Just my .02
Re: Vocabulary sigkapgirl: I'm with Kermie - my ex cussed up a storm, and although it wore off on me, I didn't like it. So, I basically stopped using all the REALLY bad words since we separated, and it makes me feel a lot better!
I'm trying to take compliments better. Instead of something like this:
Person: Your hair looks nice today!
Me: Oh, its alright. Nothing special.
I try to do something more like this:
Person: Your hair looks nice today!
Me: Thank you! :)
Sounds stupid, but I finally figured out there isn't anything wrong with feeling good about yourself, and if someone takes the time to compliment you, then you should acknowledge their thoughtfulness instead of totally shoot it down! :)
Re: Vocabulary OnTheMend: I admit, I love cussing. I know it's awful! But I do! So... I'm trying curb it.
I also geek out on 10$ words. So.. I keep a list of words I want to try to use. This week the word is "morass".... if I have to think of ways to use it.. I'm hoping it keeps me from saying &*#*(# and *#((@*#* and *#*@&@!
;D
Re: Vocabulary dgiirl: I dont like cussing, but I've been known too. Ex use to make me feel so guilty doing it too. F* him! lol :)
I've also replaced the word cant with wont. If I'm scared to do something, and I say I cant go to the mall, i replace it with I wont go to the mall, then ask myself if it's true or not. If I WONT do something, then it's ok. But it has to be a choice I make for myself.
