let em down gently? whatnext: How do I let somebody down gently? We have mutual aquaintances (MAs) (who set me up without asking first, thanks a##holes!) so I'll be seeing this person every now and again. I ran into the MAs and the setup this weekend and pretty much blew them all off, but then the setup called me two days ago and I have to call back today. She's a kind person, with a good heart, but I'm not into it.
Any takers? How about: "I'm not interested in dating you." Too blunt? She's a divorcee.
Re: let em down gently? ChristyM: This could go a couple different ways WN.
My first response would be just to say, I really appreciate you wanting to get together with me and I'm flattered, but I think I'm going to take a break from dating for a little while. I'm just not motivated enough to sustain a relationship at this point so that's not very fair to you.
However, if you are actively dating and she's going to see you with some other girl in a week or so then that wouldn't fly.
Just be honest and tell her you don't feel any chemistry so there isn't any reason to start something that would only be given a half-hearted attempt on your part. Again, do the "that's not fair to you" thing.
Just my lowly opinion ...

Re: let em down gently? tyrogers: What Christy said sounds good!
Re: let em down gently? skooz: I don't think there's a "gentle" way to drop the bomb, even if you're the nicest person in the world. Just say it, be honest, tell her it's just not going to work and don't give her too many reasons or you probably will end up lying... ewww! It might hurt a little, but there are good band-aids for that. She's gonna be just fine.
Good luck!
