Need help with diagnosis brokenman: Alright, I have a situation that I am finally uncertain of and I need some input.
My daughter has been very tired lately. She just turned 11 in June and has always been pretty active. But this week she has really lost her pep. She gets home from school around 3:30 and takes a nap. I wake her up when I get home at 5:30. We have dinner and do a little then she tells me that she is going to go to bed around 8:30. She'll lay down and get up occasionally, but she is asleep by 9:30.
She isn't running a fever. She hasn't had anything worse than a headache one day and a stomach ache the next. Now, I am wondering if her body is gearing up for her period, but frankly I don't know. I asked her if that might be it. She didn't think so because she didn't have the symptoms from the "special" class they had at school last year. But I am not certain.
I am not quite ready to take her to the doctor because that seems like overkill. Any ideas?
Re: Need help with diagnosis Erin: Could it be mono?
I know that illness usually hits kids around now when they get back to school. Maybe it's just the start of a nasty cold or flu.
Could she be having problems with friends? Bullies? That has her down?
How does she say she feels other than tired?
If it keeps up I'd definately take her to the doctor.
Sorry, I'm probably not helping much, but I just thought I'd give you another perspective...
Re: Need help with diagnosis brokenman: Thanks for the input. I wondered about mono. In fact, that is what I am most worried about but I just don't figure her getting that. Dunno though, kids do share drinking containers and such. ( Don't mention kissing, this is my precious angel here :) )
School has been good. She still has all A's. All her friends are currently speaking to each other, so that isn't it. Although something is creepy when 5 girls are all on speaking terms ;D. And I think we are free from bullies at this time. She is very open about anything that bothers her. I guess that is bothersome too. Because the only answer I get to "What's wrong?" is "I'm tired."
Re: Need help with diagnosis Erin: It's not only spread through kissing...

But it doesn't sound like that is what she has....
Sorry I'm stumped too!
Re: Need help with diagnosis jillieb44: Take her to the doctor.
My son was lethargic for a week -- and he had leukemia. This is likely nothing that serious, but you never know.
Check it out.
Are you sure she's not depressed? Sometimes I think my 11 yr old is...runs in the family.
