Anyone alse but me that has the feeling psychologists aren't much for medicating and psychiatrists are all for medicating?

Psychologists aren't medically trained so they can't perscribe medication directly. To put you on meds, they'd have to refer you to a physician. Perhaps they don't like the idea of sharing treatment.

Re: new antidepressants will they work on grief? ashamaliedarn: I've been on antidepressants for going on 7 years. I was 15 when I started them. I was diagnosed with clinical depression, and Pre Menstrual Disforic Disorder. In lamen terms, I get depressed a lot, but more so around my period. I have been on effexor, prozac, welbutrin, sarafem, celexa, zoloft, and many many many others...I do have to say, that the prozac worked the best. BUT, since then, (i was on it when i was 15 for bout a year) I've used Celexa...going on like 4 years I think. When my ex left me (out of the blue as well) I upped my intake. On doctor's approval, so dont freak out yet ;).. And found out...that celexa is a serotonin medication (thinkin' norepinephrin too but could be wrong) and if you get too much of the serotonin in your system you get HORRIBLE anger/attitude issues. I started a new medication which, frighteningly is used for treating skitzophrenics...I don't think I'm one of those, but who knows lol...it seems to be working..
The thing of it is, no anti-depressant is going to work on grief. Grief is something you have to work through on your own. Maybe the medication will help it some, but it's not going to make it all go away. Time is a healing process, and medication doesn't always fix...I've learned this the hard way hunny. I wish you all the luck in the world, and I truly hope you come through with flying colors and proven happiness! :)
GOod luck.
Re: new antidepressants will they work on grief? callaway: Update:
When I started effexor I was a 1 on a 1 to 5 point scale. After about 3 weeks I had felt a definite improvement and went from a 1 to a 2. Now 4 weeks into the treatment I'm close to a 3. Yay, I feel so much better!
Re: new antidepressants will they work on grief? callaway: New update!
I'm now 8 weeks into my treatment. Didn't believe I could feel this good so soon. I'm at about a 4 on a 5 point scale. I have gone from crying everyday when I started my meds to crying once every other week. I can almost say I'm happy nowadays.
Hurray!
