Question BONILLAK: We live in NJ.  I know child support is calculated based on a formula but I now understand that alimony and childcare expenses go on top of that, am I right?  My husband is claiming he makes $1700 a month, take home pay so according to that he would pay me about $800 a month child support.  I am looking for fulltime work which will then make it where I need full time daycare for our 3 yr old and before/after care for our 8yr old.  If I add half the cost to that onto the child support the total for dh will be $1400 a month(leaving him with $300 for himself).  If I get a little alimony then add that too as I don't know what kind of job I will find with no work experience at all.  Now he has always worked 2-3 jobs but quit them upon leaving home and they were cash jobs.  Can the state really take almost every penny from him?
Re: Question starzluv: i was told that here in Pa. the state cane take up to 75% of his GROSS pay. that's just what i've been told, won't know for sure though till our appointment with domestic relations.

Re: Question kuhnga: Take home pay has nothing to do with the formula, it is gross pay.  I had to stop contributing to 401k and minimize other deductions to make ends meet.
Re: Question in_search_of: He will get credits for other amounts paid to you on his child support and/or alimony worksheet.

The court is not going to leave him with nothing to live on. Alimony is not a guarantee, and if it leaves him nothing then courts are reluctant to award it. And child care is figured in with the child support amounts as well.
Re: Question BONILLAK: My lawyer today received my husbands paystubs and said there is no way that he will be left with anything just taking the basics.  He also said I will most definately get alimony as he walked out of here and I have never ever worked and have no education because I was a dummie for believing marriage was for life.  Also he said in NJ childcare is split 50/50 and sometimes 60/40.  He said he forsees my husband being ordered to take on a second job.  He said its a sad situation and even just being nice and taking just the basics is going to leave him with nothing.  The whole situation is sad but I do have to take so my kids and I can make it in this expensive state.
