Re: Golf Clubs.. BigRunner493: hey tg...
no...you don't need to be a member of a golf club. most driving ranges have golf pros available for lessons and also some teacher hang out at public or semi-private courses. you can also find them in the phone book.
Re: Golf Clubs.. missycristin: Well I think most of you are aware of my history with golf clubs, and for those that don't, I don't suggest teeing off anywhere near the ex's windshield.
That said, Golf is much more relaxing than people think. For beginners I reccomend "The Practice Book" it's an invaluble teaching tool.
Re: Golf Clubs.. OS: To just take a group package at your local community golf course might run ya bout $100 for 3 or 4 lessons. The last lesson should include 9 holes w/ an instructor. They'll teach ya the basics, and when you can get the basic swing down then the game is much more fun.
There's no doubt that playing 3-4 times a week will help, but I know guys that hack twice a month and can play between 90-95... and they're just avg hacks. Getting comfortable with your swing and knowing the difference in feel as opposed to a manufactured swing makes all the difference.
For xmas next year, I'm going to ask for Titleist irons and then try out for the tour. ;)

Re: Golf Clubs.. damn53: I was a golf instructor after college (I played in college). Tarheel, where do you play around here?
Re: Golf Clubs.. Tarheel: Unfortunately, I'm not around there. I'm a transplant stuck in Alabama.
But I play at lovely Emerald Mountain here...
