Re: Any hockey fans around here? picadilly: heh, take heart, it wasn't personal. ;P We'll slam anyone we get a chance to. Actually, Minnisota slapped us silly last week in the first back to back game with them. We beat them the next day but they play a modified trap game which is really boring hockey & I can not even imagine being a fan down there... it amazes me that anyone would pay money to watch that kind of slow game. & the problem we have with it is the Canucks play a fast, open game of hockey so we always have a hard time with "trap" teams. But against other teams like ours, it's amazing to watch & you really feel like if you buy a ticket, hold onto your seat, it's a crazy ride.
How are ticket sales in Dallas? The entire season of games here are sold out (except single seat tickets... wahoo). Just wondering how they are doing post-lockout.
Re: Any hockey fans around here? cyncyn_22: I think the ticket sales have been pretty good here in Dallas. It's kind of hard to tell because when I watch the games on TV, there are a lot of empty seats in the lower level, but when I look at the score in the paper the next day it says that the game was a sellout. So apparently tickets are selling, but putting butts in seats is another matter.
Unfortunately I live 100 miles away from Dallas so I don't get to go to many Stars games.
I hate trap hockey! The NHL should just go ahead and ban trapping, along with the dump and chase. :)
Re: Any hockey fans around here? picadilly: hehe, easier said then done. Then again, every year for the last 4 years that I can remember off the top of my head, they said they would make sure that there would be less hooking & holding & free up the ice for players... & every year for the last 4 years that I can remember off the top of my head, it falls apart by December. So we'll see. lol.
As long as people are buying the tickets, that’s mostly what matters. Though having it look like a sold out game on TV would probably add to it, too.
The dump & chase I think is arguably a legitimate strategy since they have to cross the centre line to do it or it's off side but then the offensive player gets the momentum going & can typically get there before the defensive players that are skating backwards. Sometimes that is the only way to carry a puck in or get that line change off.
trap hockey = bad = snooze fest. lol :)

Are you forgetting that the Columbus Blue Jackets exist? :-\
Re: Any hockey fans around here? Tarheel: Hurricanes fan here. It's been tough since the 2002 Finals run, but so far this year, the rookie in net has looked okay. Stopped Mario and Crosby in the shootout when they played Pittsburgh, so maybe we've fallen on to someone...
I'm no diehard, but I'll watch a few minutes of a game if I see one on. But come playoff time, there is NO playoff format better than the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And that's coming from a resident of the state of Alabama.
