Life, Love, and Football Tarheel: [Note: YJ, if you're reading this  and haven't finished watching the game, click back and read later.">

Let me tell ya'll a little story...

There was just under two minutes left in the Florida/Georgia game today.  The Dawgs had the ball facing a 4th and 12, the game and undefeated season hanging in the balance.  During the timeout that preceded the play, I went outside to unload some groceries that my mom had bought at the store.  I went outside, my daughter went outside.  But as I carried Coke and Gatorade back into the house, my little girl did not follow me.  She went running among the trees in the side yard and when I called for her to come inside, she took off running the other way.  I chased her down, spanked her for not following my instructions, and brought her back inside.

And I'd missed the play.

And it's a good thing I did.  The Gator defense swarmed in and forced an incomplete pass, ending the Bulldogs' hopes for the win and a National Title.  And thanks to the defiance of my daughter, I wasn't subjected to the embarassment that was the final Georgia offensive play of the game.  Final score: Florida 14, Georgia 10.  And being a man of my word, I am here to eat my crow.

However, crow tastes best with a pound of salt so let me throw this out there first: 1-if Shockley plays for UGA today, the Gators lose by two TD's, and 2-those Florida jerseys are the ugliest things I've seen this year.  But I know, I'm supposed to be singing the praises of UF and all that, so here goes, digging from the bottom of the barrel...

Today, I want to thank the University of Florida.  Thank you for providing me the viewing pleasure of the Weather Channel's Stephanie Abrams, the best thing to happen to hurricane coverage since the Saffir-Simpson scale.  While I'm positive her stunning beauty is completely unelated to the fact that she's a Florida grad, I'll overlook that and give UF credit for it, at least for today.  I would like to thank Urban Meyer, Florida head coach, for being a girly-enough man to CRY at his post-game press conference two weeks ago after LSU beat the Gators.  It's guys like you, Urban, who make it okay for men to be sensitive to our emotions, that it's okay to cry, even if only over a silly football game.  (Which, ironically enough, I'm figuratively doing right now.)  And thanks also for finally getting people to slowly begin to forget about the guy in the visor.

I would also like to thank Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan, with yourstupid slicked back hair, for being my favorite prick to hate in the SEC come basketball season.  Speaking of which, my Tar Heels tip off preseason in seven days, and the defense of their 2005 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP begins on November 19, for your information. :)

I guess that's only half the a** I'm supposed to kiss as a result of this asinine bet, which was admittedly, MY OWN IDEA!  YellowJacket, I defer to your pigskin superiority, brother.  Your team won today in a well-played game (barring those two missed field goals that would have WON THE GAME) and you officially win the bet.  You are a HELL OF A GUY!  Our little community here can ALWAYS use more guys like you, and I hope that someday, I can be 99% of the man that you are, but fear that I will never reach my goal.

[sigh"> There, I did it.

NOW... I can care less about some silly football game.  I ain't about to let the stupid Florida Gators ruin MY day!  Because as of about 2:30 this afternoon, I HAVE A DATE FOR TUESDAY NIGHT!!!  ;D ;D ;D  Florida can kiss my a**, Miami (who beat my beloved Heels today after a first half scare) can kiss my a**, I don't care.  All I care is that I have open-ended dinner plans with a beautiful young lady on Tuesday night, back in the game FOR REAL for the first time in over four years.  Ya'll wish me luck.
Re: Life, Love, and Football Lumpy:   I don't think this qualifies as an ass-kissing. Congrats on the date Tarheel. Hope it goes well. YJ, ya got ripped off buddy...

Re: Life, Love, and Football YellowJacket: Tarheel, congrats on your date!!  That's awesome news, man.  A few dates with a pretty girl is more important than a football game any day!  Hopefully this one is a much better person than toll-road girl or that other one.  Hope it goes great for you!

Thought maybe you guys could get Miami for the second year in a row.  Too bad it didn't come to pass.

As for the game -- you guys playing without DJ really changed the entire game.  It just wasn't the same.  The fact that you were able to still come so close to winning shows how good of a team Georgia has this year.  If you beat Auburn and Kentucky you're in Atlanta for the big game..... so you're in a lot better shape than my Gators.

Do the right thing by your daughter -- send her to Gainesville once she's old enough!  :P

I don't think YJ ever stopped...By the by, let's drop the whole "The universe would have shifted had our starting QB been playing" crap. Injuries are a HUGE part of football. The man was too injured to play. Reality check people. If my aunt had a hairy pair she'd be my uncle. She doesn't, she isn't. That's why I call her my aunt.
