Parenting a BIG kid manda: For the most part, I have to say, I am lucky. My 15yr old son is sweet and good. He doesn't get into trouble and he seems to be handling it all well.
But we just had one of those conversations that are becoming common with him.
him: Will you take me to Best Buy?
me: No, it's too far, I can't afford the gas, I want to stay home. Why don't you invite so-and-so over or...
him: if Dad were here, he'd take me (walks off)
I'd love to say, "Call him and ask him to take you." but I'd never set him up for that rejection--and poor little guy, he actually knows his dad would say no or he would call him.
sad
(He does have his friend over now, so all is good with him--X-Box is on.)
Re: Parenting a BIG kid hardened_heart1970: serious goose.......
what you should tell him, in those times, is as much as you would love to take him to best buy, our finances are alittle tight right now, as you know christmas is around the corner, and i want to make sure i have my budget in order. i also am doing my best to do everything i can for us to live nicely, and as soon as i can we will go.... but you know, i love you hunny....
unserious goose.
go clean your room, and make me a sandwich. with goosetape.
Re: Parenting a BIG kid manda: Okay, feeling guilty...taking the kid to Best Buy!
Be back later.
Re: Parenting a BIG kid manda: yeah, Goose Tape, I should...instead, I just caved. Big time.
(Big goose-tape sandwich! Yeah, that sounds...interesting.)
(Oh, you should see his room! Ahhhh! And this is after he has "cleaned" it. This would be the brand new room we just finished for him in the basement that is bigger than our living room. he just trashes it!--Oh well, teenagers!)
