Re: Foreign Woman on US Online Dating Websites BambiC: My stbxh is from Ireland. We met the old fashined way...in person. I did however spend a lot of time on a news group for Marriage based immigration when we were working on his visa to live in the US (we were together for 3 years before we discussed the possibility of a marriage based visa). Here are my thoughts:
1) Many people from other countries do meet online and fall in love and ultimately end up married to an American.
2) Alot of these are 100% legitimate relationships...even if they ultimately end in divorce (I think everyone here can attest to this)
3) Bringing a non-US citizen into the US to live is a very tedious, emotionally draining, sometimes expensive and time consuming process...is this what you really want to get into. Even if you do everything the right way it could literally take almost a year to get your fiance to the US and then once they are here it can take months before they are legal to work, drive, etc. and then well over a year before they have a conditional green card.
Having done the international long distance relationship thing and having gone through all of the woes of working through the USCIS system I would not recommend it. I've sworn off all non-American men unless they are already legally in the US. It was a very hard process to go through. If you really think this woman could be the one and you are willing to make the emotional investment it would take to have a long distance relationship and then bring her to the US then continue to e-mail her. If, however, you just think she's attractive and are curious then let it go. Even if it's not a scam you're not looking at an easy road ahead.

Re: Foreign Woman on US Online Dating Websites timer: Thanks for the responses. At this point all I would want to do is have her come over on a temp visa to visit me or for me to possibly visit her. I have no intentions of having this develop into a long term relationship.
Re: Foreign Woman on US Online Dating Websites ambergem: If you do that - have her come over on a visitor's visa and make sure that you don't end up responsible if she goes underground when she gets here. I'm pretty concerned about the initial lie too...
