Have you ever been around someone that is constantly gossiping or even a stranger in a store that is talking bad about others - maybe someone that constantly points out people that are fat, people with large noses, etc.? What is your thoughts on this type of person? You don't reallly pay attention to their words. You pay attention to their character in being such an ass to say these things.
THIS is probably how people perceive or "eventually" will see your ex. At first they may even believe him, but when he becomes a broken record they will see what he's about. They will see the cruelty and intentions of his words.

To take that one step further, do you have any friends who constantly bad-mouth other friends when they're not around? You begin to wonder what they're saying about you behind your back. He's only hurting himself...
