"Dating Yourself" Tarheel: Okay, I think there was a thread about this a few months back, but this wasn't an issue for me then, so I didn't read it. And since I'm too busy (read: lazy) to search for it, I'm just gonna start a new thread...
How well does "dating yourself" work?
I mean, dressing up, looking good... and then going out to eat by yourself and taking in a movie alone. Has anybody else done this?
A co-worker swore by this today, telling me that if I went into a restaurant to eat by myself, and played it cool enough, there was a decent chance I wouldn't be going to the movie alone.
Was she full of s*** or is there any legit truth behind this? Cause THIS is something I might be able to handle...
Re: "Dating Yourself" charmed: I say go for it and then let us know what happens ;D
I believe that if we can enjoy our own company, others will too. So date yourself and others will want to join in on the fun LOL

Re: "Dating Yourself" alonewith2: I agree, GO FOR IT!! I think it will work if you have the mindset that you will enjoy the evening alone because there is no guarantee that you will end the evening with someone.
Also most people will not go near someone who looks sad, lonely, and depressed......that tends to repel people rather than attract them.
So think of it as going out to have a few drinks....thinking maybe you might possibly run into someone.....
I hope it works for you. Let me know....then maybe I'll get the guts up to try it!
Re: "Dating Yourself" Tarheel: Well, here's my question...
What the hell am I supposed to do while I'm waiting on my food? Draw on the napkin? Blow bubbles in my water? Memorize the nutritional facts on the Sweet-N-Low? Usually, that's talking time. If there's nobody else to talk to, what do I do? (Remember, I don't do the just talk to anybody thing. Besides, if I'm out by myself, then it looks forced anyway.)
Re: "Dating Yourself" alonewith2: Take one of your textbooks and pretend to read it while using it as a shield to cover you while checking out the hotties! LOL
Seriously, take a magazine or a book, but don't engross yourself in it. Just sort of skimf/flip through the pages.....look around once in awhile so if anyone thought about approaching you, they would know you weren't doing anything real important....
Just a suggestion....this is why I haven't gotten the guts to do it myself!
