Re: Xanax anyone? My_farm: Hi Mooneyes,
After my surprise divorce I tried VERY hard to not go the Anti-d and Xanax
route. I was a very strong person and thought I could do without them.
Divorce is a huge pit to fall into and I am so glad that some Ojar friends
convinced me that anti-ds and xanax would help.
I had a hard time finding a anti-d that did not make it worse.
Lexapro made all the difference to me.
Before my divorce I thought that anxiety was not a serious thing and had no idea how crippleing it is.
My anxiety was sooooooo bad that without xanax I doubt that I could have
kept my job (I have been there for over 20 years). I was so worried about xanax(benzos) that I made myself very uncomfortable worrying about an addiction. For the first couple of months I was taking minumal dose 3 times a day. Then I became tolerant of the dose and had it doubled for 6 months while I tried to reconcile with my x. I finally found some peace and weaned myself off of them without any problem at all.
regards
Mike
Re: Xanax and me friend and foe no date: most dr's don't prescribe xanax these day's especially long term as it is so addictive those dr's that I have seen say they don't prescribe it at all anymore however when I doing a cruise gig {I get really sea sick really easy [vertigo"> they did prescribe it to keep me a bit more calm while barfing off the rails [sorry"> anyway I was on xanaz in the late 90's when it was common to see the drug prescribed here in CT. anyway I stopped cold turkey [your not supposed to"> and I did have a seizure talk about freaky! I wondered in the neighborhood and walked into a couple of houses till someone called the cops and the only thing I can remember about the whole thing was waking up in an ambulance.. nice huh? so if you do take it please do not stop cold turkey in fact even when prescribed and taken responsibly they prefer you taper in a clinic for drug dependency simply because even tapering off can be dangerous so they say.. I was only on .05 per day when I stopped cold turky and had a seizure and I hear that is considered a very very low dose. also I'm pretty sure but not 100% sure your not supposed to take xanax on an as needed basis but that you should have a steady daily amount I've been told this over and over again so to hear about so many people taking this drug as needed raises some concern simply because it is a very dangerous drug at least potentially also I have never heard of this drug being prescribed long term {more than 6mo's} but just long enough to help you get over whatever catastrophic emotional crisis you may be going through...

Re: Xanax anyone? no date: interesting I just went to the link provided at the top of this thread and it agrees with most of what I said...means one thing.. xanax is dangerous and the "it can happen to you" factor is very very high!!!!
Re: Xanax anyone? Goddess: no date-

Im sorry you  had a bad experience.. but I will stand by my previous post and tell anyone with horrible anxiety to please talk to their dr at length and not be scared off by the horror stories.

As I said..I would not function in any way without my anti anxiety medication..not because Im an addict..but because something in my brain is broken..just as if I would need medication for anything else.

Re: Xanax anyone? no date: well,

don't get me wrong if something works for you by all means take it..I'm just saying beware that anyone on this med long term has a better chance of tapering down in an abuse clinic {I hate the sound of that} and I hated it when they told me I should have gone to an abuse clinic I thought WHAT? are you crazy I'm  no druggie! but look what happened in my case I didn't go and ended up running around the neiborhood a sleep then totally passing out! imagine if I had the where with all to put keys in an ignition..I don't want to think about it.but I will say it sure helped when I was on it! seems the biggest problem is getting off it not being on it..food for thought thats for sure!
