Re: How long do you folks wait to start dating after separation? manda: I'll be honest here. I was feeling like life was passing by. I wasn't leaving the house. AND I HAD to know if I could even be attracted to someone again...so it was kind of early for me but I felt like I had put in the time of staring at the ceiling and thinking and thinking. I was ready. It was five months from the time my husband tried to leave...three from when he actually DID leave.
Of course I almost changed my mind because I had a few really blah dates where I felt NOTHING...and wished to be at home. THEN, I had one good one. To me, it was a very good thing. I have developed a better attitude about doing the right thing for me instead of just what other people expect.
But that is just me. My family (sisters, mom, dad) is SO glad I am getting out of the house some. And after being in a bad marriage for 16 years and three additional dating years... I'm just not going to let my ex eat up anymore of my time.

Re: How long do you folks wait to start dating after separation? hurtnlost: My ex told me he wanted a divorce in aug. and we were divorced in jan and I am going out on my first date on Friday. For some it may be soon but it has nothing to do with what everyone else thinks. My ex had left me alone in my marriage long before we were ever divorced and through the separation it took that time to make me realize it. I just think it is unfair to let life pass you by when your ex is not. My family thinks it is fine to get out and have dinner with someone but just not get into anything serious and I probably won't. However; dating I think is really ok whenever you feel like it.

I guess considering we're not technically even separated yet that I shouldn't be thinking about it, oh well. I guess I do have an outstanding date...it's 4 months away (long story) with a guy I was involved with in high school, I think that's as soon as I'll have any dates. ::)
It sounds like from what everyone's saying that the right time is when it's right for you. Do what feels good...if you feel like you're forcing it then you're not ready. Don't let other people tell you what's too soon or if they think you're waiting too long (unless it's been 10 years...then you should try to get out there).
