Re: how can i stop the waterworks? alonewith2: They don't prescribe Ativan for depression usually.  It's for anxiety attacks which are a little different.
Re: how can i stop the waterworks? Polly: from my understanding (1 psychopharmacology class--so I am BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT!!!), if you were to choose between Ativan and an anti-depressant, an AD would be the safer option.

Ativan is a benzodiazepine--it gives you that "feel good" effect, but benzos have a much higher potential for tolerance than AD's.  The benzo receptors in your brain may down- regulate so you actually will have less of them over time.  And then it may excite your nervous system even more when you stop taking them. That said,  some people have no tolerance problems or broblems going off benzos.

Not that AD's are necessarily the answer, and not each one works for everyone the same way.  Some people aren't helped by them, some are.  it is just trial and error. But unless you are having full-blown panic attacks, they are probably a more appropriate option than a benzo.

But I am not a medical professional....  so this is just from my understanding of it.  Talk to your doc... a psychiatrist will have more specialized knowledge than a family practice doctor.

Re: how can i stop the waterworks? sadgirlwhyme: Thanks Polly.
I am very against drug use of any kind and I am glad I dont have any. I have been taking Tylenol PM at night to help me relax and thats doing ok.
I guess they gave me the Ativan because I was freaking out from morphine withdrawl.
I dont want any drug to change my breain chemistry.
I was sick for months and lost my bestfriend/lover/roomate of 5 years while I was in the hospital.
The fact that he "lives" here but is never here and wont move out is naturally driving me crazy!
I dont have the money to move and I am still facing one last surgury and this leaves me in a real bind.
I think I could get over him if he would only move out. I am going to pray that the new girlfriend wants him to move in and that God somehow provides a way for me to pay my bills when I am looking at missing work again for surgury.
