Children come into the world with their own personalities. Parents have the responsibility to help them to learn, grow and develop. Environment is also a factor, but I would argue that even more significant is how the parent responds to the environment (external factors) and how the parent teaches the child to respond to external factors.
Child + parent + environment = child's development, and preparation (or lack thereof) for life
You came into the equation later, and as such, it was challenging for you to have much of a positive impact. It certainly seems to me that not only did you and your ex fail to reach an agrement about appropriate parenting, perhaps because you did show up in their (hers and her son's) life long after she had decided what was acceptable and unacceptable parenting, but she also lacked good judgment in terms of establishing limits for her child's behavior. You can't really "save" people like that, as I guess you found out.

At first of Marrage he was just a Hyper Kid.
BUT , She would send him to stay at her Alcoholic RICH Sisters to stay
for the Summer and holidays etc.
He got to Steal Rich Alcoholic Sisters Beer. And Show Out in front of Friends.

So when He comes home to our Home. Paid For Shack :)
he wants to be back in Her Alcoholic Rich Sisters Home.
Which is a Puzzle to me bcause He would go to Her Alcoholic Sister and Say:

THEN
He would go to Her Alcoholic Sisters HUSBAND and say Your Wife is $#%^@
I do Belive THEY got a DIVORCE Because of Him
And NOW Alcoholic Sister is No Longer Rich !
Husband who Grossed almost a Million a Year is Gone.

That is the Question Suddenly Single: I am recently a step parent and my husband when I first met them had them treat me with respect and backed up things I did. If he didn't agree with it - he would tell me *in private* and I back him up. It is very important and so far it is working well....NOW on the other hand....Birthmom is a lunatic ***** and I can't stand her and I just want to yell and scream and tell the children EVERYTHING...how their mom is a LIAR, she is RUDE, she is MEAN, she is verbally ABUSING them, she cheated on their dad 3 times, she never played with them when they are young - she was NEVER around and didn't want to be - she KILLED someone and is lying to them about where she is going and what she does. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH..
Just a bad night for me to post... sorry.

That is the Question beentheredoneit: Same here I am soon to be married but have been living with my fiance' for 3 1/2 yrs now, we got custody of his kids about a year and 1/2 ago (I also have three children) their mom is a freak!!! She is the one that filed for divorce and custody and we ended up with the kids if that tells you anything. Since we have taken the kids, she has lost her home (daddy's house), her job, had another baby (and has one on the way), most of her family is not speaking to her, she has been convicted of welfare fraud (was still trying to get benefits when children were gone- and was getting them fraudulantly when children were there). She has also been convicted of filing false police reports and has to pay restitution for both crimes, she's lost her license, her car, the works!!!! She makes all kinds of promises to the kids and breaks them almost every time, hasn't got the kids anything for Christmas in a number of years (just found this out) and gives them a lame excuse when she doesn't. She is a mess, she doesn't show up to pick them up sometimes and hasn't paid a dime in support since we have had the kids, she is supposed to be paying half for all extra curricular activities, and hasn't paid any of that either. So I'm with ya!!!!!!
