Newbie here can someone give me some info on the whole process, etc thanks melinda143: HI I have been a lurker here for awhile.
I have been married for a little over two years and unfortunately it seems like the only answer is Divorce right now. I have tons of questions but am not ready to talk to an attorney just yet. We agreed that we aren't going to make this an ugly divorce (hopefully that won't change) but how does this work, how long does the whole process take if both parties are in agreement on everything??? What happens with medical insurance, and are you only covered till the divorce if final? Any input/advice will be appreciated.
Melinda :(
Re: Newbie here can someone give me some info on the whole process, etc thanks lilly10: Hi Melinda,

Every state is different so my advise would be to consult with an attorney with these types of questions.

Re: Newbie here can someone give me some info on the whole process, etc thanks 2be: Hi Melinda... yeah, it totally depends on your state.  Where I am in AZ, we just went to the Family/Civil Court and got their divorce "packet" for $14 and filled it out ourselves. Ours was easy though... no fighting aobut material things, no kids, amicable, we can support ourselves (no alimony, etc).  We filed in mid November and it should be final here soon (I can't remember the exact date right now).

I can't answer your insurance question.
Re: Newbie here can someone give me some info on the whole process, etc thanks freovir: the legal questions will vary by state and possibly the medical ones as well.

i know for me (in michigan) the ex could continue to pay the premium and be covered under my insurance, but if she missed a payment or stopped coverage (which she did) then she canot rejoin.

i think you are going to have to talk to professionals about both of these questions. . .

try googling "divorce in 'your state'"

good luck
Re: Newbie here can someone give me some info on the whole process, etc thanks sadgirl951: This is just me talkin. Hope ot helps. :-)

Like everyone has said, depending on your state and also your county, the length of time for the divorce varies. It also depends on how long you were married. For me, Im in southcali, was married a year before filing, and it took exactly six months to get it final. If you're married longer I'm sure it might take longer to get it done. As for insurance, I was on his insurance and still am, but it's military insurance, so when his time is up for the Army in May, then that's when it stops. Legally it's suppose to stop after our divorce is final but shhh, dont tell anyone, lol.

Regardless of it all, best bet is to go to about.com, they have really good answers for your questions:
http://marriage.about.com/od/divorce/index.htm?terms=divorce
You can also google or ask jeeves.

Good luck with everything, also if you have other questions try looking in the ask legal questions part on ojar.

Best wishes.
