Accomplishments yella: You know how we all get to a point when we hit rock bottom in our lives? We sometimes forget about the accomplishments we've made, and focus on all of the bad that's happening. I know I'm guilty of that, so I thought I'd start something that highlights the accomplishments we've made to help us all see the good in us, and help us all get through the bad.
So, here's mine:
A couple of years ago, when I was fairly new to the company I work at now, I had entered 4 very large orders for our major account. Together they were worth over $750,000.
The orders were shoes for a major launch that was happening, and all of the account's stores needed to have these in and on shelves by a certain date for sales to be optimal. Well, first off, they were late to arrive, so we had to scramble to get them delivered by any means possible by this drop dead date. After much tap dancing, stressful calls, and screaming fits, the shoes were delivered the day before the launch. Ok, great, we can all breathe, however...
2 of the orders were packed wrong because of incorrect instructions entered at the time the orders were placed, which was my fault. We have audits that we conduct to catch these mistakes, but these were never caught. Anyway, instead of the stores receiving cases of 1 shoe of each size, they received cases of 12 prs of ONE size. NOT COOL! The stores had to send the shoes back to their DC's and have them all repacked. So..
Not only were the shoes late, and we had to spend money and time to tap dance and walk on water, but they were packed wrong to boot. Major $200,000 mistake that I made. I worked in a very high profile group for the largest account, so the entire world (Presidents, VP's, directors, etc) of both companies knew what the mistakes were and where they came from. It was the worst month of my professional life and I thought for sure I was going to lose my job.
Of course I wasn't exactly liked after that, but I did something pretty major to correct all of that. I formed an action plan and set it into motion for not only my job, but for my entire team. That major mistake propelled me into changing the way things were conducted in that department permanently, and because of that action plan, that mistake was NEVER repeated.
Needless to say that over time, and as I got to know my job better and the systems I was using, I ended up saving the company over $1,000,000 in preventable mistakes and chargebacks. I had redeemed myself 10 times over, and just a short year later I was promoted.
Now I'm known as irreplaceable, and no one who has been hired after me has been able to last because of the high standards that I have set. I feel bad for J because he can't seem to keep an ASR, but it feels pretty damn good to know that I've made that big of an impact and that I'm indeed, irreplaceable.
I had a major hurdle there, and I overcame it. I had to remind myself that I have the ability to do that, in every aspect of my life, not just work.
I've hit rock bottom the past couple of weeks, and I'm working to get myself back up. When I feel low again, I'm looking back and reading this.
So, how about you?
Re: Accomplishments alonewith2: So if I move near you, can J hire me?
I've had pretty much the same impact at my job. Including getting the biggest holdback and money waster in the hospital fired! ;D
I earned my fulltime position! Since Novemeber, I have worked on changing the billing process. The billing process starts from the time of the patient's discharge until the bill is sent. There were numerous hangups with the old way of doing things. First, the ER doctors were not dictating within thier alloted time frame. Second, the ER nursing staff were not completing their charges on time. Third, the charges were not being sent to me in a timely fashion. Fourth, the charges were not being sent from me to the business office in a timely fashion. I started with meetings between myself and the ER management staff. Then I included the billing office. We still hold weekly meetings in an effort to communicate the hangups in the process. Last week, I managed to get our hold bill list down to just $65k. The hold bill list had never been under $250k during the Ice Queen's reign. She kept saying that to get it under $150k was impossible. I proved her wrong....and in fact, proved that getting rid of her and keeping me was the most financially rewarding step the hospital could have ever made! ;D
Re: Accomplishments thehitekrednek: I have gone from a nobody, backbreaker, to the manger of the maintenance department in 2 years. I am now in charge of all the equipment, trucks, buildings, and machinery, and I have the best crew in the company, as far as effiency goes. Thanks for reminding me to look, Smiley.
Re: Accomplishments yella: It's always nice when you're going through a divorce or break-up to remember who you really are inside, and what you've done. I've tried to do that in the past, but wasn't successful. This time, I am.
Break-up can destroy you all the way down to your soul, but if you reach deep inside, you can find that holds you together, and what makes YOU stand out. Grab hold of it, and don't let go.
