Test for chemical imbalance YellowJacket: I was reading a depression newsgroup today and came across a post that mentioned being tested to determine if you have a chemical imbalance.
I'm a bit skeptical about this but I am going to follow up on it. I've been curious about this for a long time. I've dealt with depression since at least my later teen years.
I'm not sure if my case is chemical or not. I've had a considerable number of serious setbacks and it could be either. I tried Prozac for a short time but it wasn't a cure.
Has anyone else ever heard of such a test? Is it a blood-work test or just a series of questions? I'll be a lot more confident if it's the former.
Re: Test for chemical imbalance jen: The only test that I know of that has had any reliability in testing for neurotransmitter imbalances has been PET scans. I know that a few years ago, urine and cerebrospinal fluid tests were being talked improved, but I don't know if they were further developed to the point where they can accurately detect neurotransmitter imbalances. But, there is quite a bit of evidence that suggests neurochemistry is worth thinking about.
Re: Test for chemical imbalance YellowJacket: Thanks. I've been informed that I'm insane. So, problem solved, I guess. ::)
