Any Anti-anxiety relief My_farm: This stuff is like an onion (so many layers and levels).
My stories are in the archives.
I can not stop the anxiety. I 'take' as much of the anxiety as I can stand
then I take a 0.25 (min dose) xanax. I believe that the anxiety is caused by
the feelings of financial insecurity. I am a professional and if I do not get laid off I will be able to (re)save a nest egg to feel comfortable again.
There are NO anti-anxiety meds that are not 'habit forming'. During the first
7 months after divorce I took Xanax and stopped for 5 months.
Then the X 'came home' for 1 month and left causing the anxiety to start again. I am getting tired of enduring the anxiety to avoid taking xanax for relief.
My question is has anyone been on anti-anxiety meds for an extended period of time and then able to stop taking them ? If you do not want to post here please PM me about it.
The problem with anti-anxiety meds is that your body gets use to them and you will need to increase the dose. Again I am tired of suffering with this divorce anxiety to avoid taking xanax.
Thanks
Mike
Re: Any Anti-anxiety relief no date: hi,
yep I was on xanax for two years about the dose you are on now and though I felt I would have no problem stopping on my own the DR, simply didn't allow me to do it on my own!.. seems with xanax it's not how much of a dose you are taking it's the amount of tapering down it takes that is the danger! don't be surprised when you decide to get off the drug you dr suggests a rehab clinic! it's not that you are an addict but it is very dangerouse to stop cold or even tapper down unless under strict dr. supervision while I was tapering off I had a seizure and they had to call paramedics and all of that.. so even under supervision things can go wrong I am off xanax and have been for 3 years and I don't miss it at all it's possible to stop taking it but it aint easy! and remember I followed the directions to the letter! hope that gives some small amount of insight...
Re: Any Anti-anxiety relief Bea: I was on and off Xanax for a few years because I was suffering from Panic Disorder. In 2003 I went for cognitive therapy and it helped a lot, put me off meds. Then last year during the first months after separation my therapist prescribed Clonazepam drops (an anti-convulsive) because I was a royal mess; to this day I still take 2 to 3 drops when I feel too anxious, but that doesn't happen often.
Divorce, financial insecurity and all what comes after a break up are good reasons to feel anxious. Just try to realize that what you're feeling is somewhat "normal" and avoid the Xanax as much as you can. Sometimes just talking to someone helps. I do a lot of breathing exercises I learn in cognitive therapy and try to think about other things when anxiety comes to visit.
Re: Any Anti-anxiety relief 2be: I've been on 5mgs (2 doses daily) of Buspirone (BuSpar) since roughly October. I dont think it's addictive at all and the only side-effect is slight drowsiness for about 1 hour after I take it. My therapist and Dr said that it is the most mild of all anti-anxiety meds.
this has been my only experience with Anti-anxiety meds, but I've even stopped taking it a couple times with no side effects. Well, my anxiety began building again, so I started back on it.
Re: Any Anti-anxiety relief My_farm: Thanks for the replies.
Yes Buspar is the ONLY non-addicting anti anxiety available.
The rest are 'Benz' derivatives.
I do take 1/2 of 1 buspar twice a day to lessen xanax intake.
A full dose of buspar actually wipes me out .
xanax is a great relief and 0.25 is a very minimal dose, but your
body can get tolerant of it and need to be increased. I know this
(divorce crap) is a short term problem, and I was ok before she returned and left again. I just have a lot of anxiety in the mornings before work and while sleeping(well trying to sleep). I go to bed at 9:30PM and sleep until 2:30AM
and wait for the alarm at 5:00 AM.
