Re: Who does this?!? C-Note: That guy's an idiot.  She should not even get down on herself or think anything about her had something to do with that guy's F'd up behavior.
Re: Who does this?!? Maximus: Tell her to be careful, there are a lot of scam artists from other countries wanting your money or a free ride to the States.

Re: Who does this?!? YellowJacket: JMN, that's pretty amazing.  I'm feeling the urge to go on a "what is wrong with people" rant.  <breathing deeply>

Doesn't it seem like every time there is a thread about online dating there are a bunch of horror stories?  I don't get it.

I've never heard any such stories in real life but there are so many on newsgroups.  I put up a profile on a dating site explicitly mentioning I'm ONLY looking for friends, not romance.  Every one that I've heard from has been completely normal.  I've met a nice friend that I go to lunch with once a week now.  One of my best friends met his wife on YP.

Re: Who does this?!? 2be: I've chatted with numerous ladies online and all of them have been on the good side of normal.  Most just stopped emailing me for some strange reason.  Guess my emails weren't that exciting, but they all seemed pretty nice and normal.  I've met three of them.... normal, though one (and one that stopped emailing) got a bit weird when I didn't return a call right away. (I was out of town and couldn't).

But no online horror stories yet.  (crossing fingers.)

2be, I wouldn't read too much into that.  I have a friend here that mentioned she put up a profile on Match.  I think she's normal looking and she mentioned she got about 100 e-mails from guys in 3 days.  So, I think maybe most women are getting overwhelmed and have trouble keeping up.

If it were me I'd still send a courtesy reply.  I always send a nice e-mail with some type of compliment before breaking off contact.  When it only takes 2 minutes to protect someone's feelings from getting hurt, why not do so?
