Re: What's Your Poison? sheeps: Ah...I see. Whiskey is open to interpretation here in America.

No bartender would equate it with Rye. Most would serve you a simple corn mash whiskey, not necessarily of any quality.

Next time, ask for a Bourbon, which is a great whiskey and must come from Kentucky.

If you want a Rye, you must ask for a Rye, and most American bars won't have one.

Concerning beer I'm living in the right country... German beer is still the best.
American beer? Well, the guys from Monty Python said it well: "American beer is like having sex in a canoe. - It's f*cking close to water!" : ;D

I have a nice bottle of Irish Whisky - Bushmills Malt, single malt of course, by now 16 years old... very very good stuff...

Re: What's Your Poison? sheeps: Yes, but they are all blended whiskeys. If you order a Bourbon, you'll get a single mash whiskey.

Haven't seen it but I like Bill Maher. I'd just go back to your intial point. It's not nearly as physically damaging as alcohol nor as debilitating. And yet it remains illegal. Go figure.
Re: What's Your Poison? toolboy: Alright, lets set the american standard straight. Rye means Rye whiskey, Made with hops. Sour mash is bourbon, corn mash, Scotch is neither. There were only 8 types of sour mash. Just to educate you all. VO,CC, and Seagrams 7, come from the same barrel. CC on the top,VO in the middle and 7 from the bottom. All distalates are fermented the same way. including sour mash.
