When to introduce new boy/girlfriend to your children? wesnickat: Those of you who have started dating and have children How long was it before you introduced them to your children? I want to protect my children and I do not want them to grow up saying "momma had this boyfriend and then this boyfriend and then this boyfriend." But if I enjoy his company and I am happy with him I would like to introduce him to my children. But when is the apporate time frame? ???

Re: When to introduce new boy/girlfriend to your children? 2be: That is a tough question, to be honest. The "experts" say keep the new boy/girlfriend away from the kids until you KNOW there is a future in the relationship. Kids can become attached to adults VERY quickly, and if they are still traumatized from your separation, it makes it even worse. The rotating door of lovers is a VERY bad thing.
The woman I'm dating... her mother had a string of boyfriends when she was a little girl and it did very much affect her. So much so that we are being very careful with me around HER 9-year old daughter.
Our situation is a bit different and difficult in that because we live 70 miles apart, our visits tend to coincide with her daughter. So I have met her daughter and think she's a great kid. But even at this point (2 months into dating) that the daughter is attached to me.
We DO NOT show ANY affection when the daughter is around, and we have put up a united front that I "am just a friend" right now. Of course, teh daughter already is drawing conclusions and has approved of me, which is good. But we still are very concerned because the daughter will undoubtedly be hurt if it doesn't work out between us.
Another difference is that my "girlfriend" and her husband divorced when the girl was an infant, so she never experience the trauma of seeing her parents split. It is "normal" for her to be raised by her mom and have her dad see her once or twice a year and over summers.
I think she really WANTS her mom to have a boyfriend and she does call me that. Her father is engaged to be married so she (I think) is okay wiht the whole situation. I guess my point is that you need to be very cautious and move SLOW when it comes to introducing your new love to a child.
that's my .02 cents... I hope it helps.
Re: When to introduce new boy/girlfriend to your children? twine: this is difficult for me as i am not dating yet, but my x moved in with other man very soon after seperation, now i guess my kids are calling his parents grandma and grandpa, that is bullsh!t cause they arn't or never will be there grandparents.
