Damn!!!!!! twetifb: I can't believe my friends did this to me!!! The guy I'm dating is staying at my place while I'm out of town for a couple of days. For some odd reason he just likes to be at my house because he says it feels like a home. Anyways, I'm sitting here in my hotel room going over all the places I've seen today and trying to make a game plan for tomorrow before my dinner engagement tonight. He calls to say hi, see how things are going and then mentions that he got my mail. I asked him if I got anything good and he tells me there are three cards. He reads me the return addresses and I identify the first as a thank you card, the second is a baptism invite, and the third is from my best friend's parents. I'm assuming it's the invite for her engagement party so I ask him to open it and read it to me. He pauses for a couple secs so I assume he didn't hear me. "C, will you please open the card from the R's and read it to me...I've been waiting for it for days cause I know it'll be cute!" He clears his throat and says, "Tiff, why's the invite addressed you and me?" "Huh? What do you mean?" "Tiff, the envelope specifically has my name on it." I'm stunned...I can't believe my girlfriend addressed the invite to me and C instead of me and a guest. I mean, I was thinking of asking him but I hadn't decided yet because I'm just not sure if I want to introduce him to everyone just yet. He knows about the engagement because he was at my place when she called to tell me she got engaged but she hasn't met him yet. Plus, I'm not sure if he has his son or a triathlon that weekend so I was waiting til I had a better idea if he was free. Finally I get my voice back and I tell him that it's no big deal, the girls just asked if I was thinking of inviting him and when I said yes, they just thought they'd add him so it was more personal. I know they did it as more of a joke then anything because this is my first "relationship" since my separation but I didn't want to tell him that. Our conversation ended a little awkward and we didn't share our usual cute goodbyes, miss you's. Damn....I hope this doesn't seriously screw this up!!! I mean we're both being so cautious and then this happens!!!! I'm going to kill my girlfriends when I get my hands on them!!!!!!!!
Re: Damn!!!!!! amIacaveman: Ahhh. The expectation game. Women play this way too often. Women assume certain things in their own minds. Nevermind the implication that the unverified assumption may cause later. You figure after while that you get good at it...wrong...if the shoes fits...put it in your mouth.
Re: Damn!!!!!! whisp: Time to talk to your friends I'd say. Nothing to do with shoes in mouths. I am sure they were not expecting him to open the envelope. Re-think that next time. ;)
Re: Damn!!!!!! twetifb: I wasn't playing the expectation game, my friends thought they were being funny and had no idea he'd be getting my mail. I spoke with him a little more about it last night and he's fine...we're fine. He was just a little surprised as was I. I guess now I have to formally invite him. Oh the joys of new relationships!!!
Re: Damn!!!!!! katelyn: What's the big deal????? I'd be flattered.
